thought i'd have a go at one of these  it's cut from a coppiced hazel from north wood at the last meet in april. a little bit of boiled linseed oil to the carving and a light coat of clear matt varnish to finish off.
well thats done it now, i'm on the lookout for more sticks! :D

Amazing work! What did you treat the woodspirit with to stain it? Or is it very brown wood?

thanks OP, :) well its hazel which does darken a little when carved, but the linseed oil takes it down a touch more, then i sometimes seal it with a little clear matt varnish. on bigger pieces i will exaggerate shadows with a slightly darker stain too.
