youtube is a traffic driven money maker.

That the vast majority of video makers make pennies doesn't detract from that.

So, things are set up to get views on youtube, not on other sites.

Fair enough, they're paying for it.

I admit that if the link on here opens and looks interesting, then I deliberately go to youtube to watch the whole thing since I reckon that the content maker deserves at least that much effort from me.

I'm not keen on threads full of just links with nothing showing though.
I'm inclined to skip those once I'm sure they're not posting something agin our guidelines on acceptable and if I weren't a Mod, I'd not pay much heed to them.

People read threads for interest, not to go mining the net.....usually :)

Clicking an embedded video here still shows as a view on YouTube. But many content makers would like you to view it on YouTube because it’s then easier to Like, Subscribe, or comment. These 3 things are what helps make a little bit of money and importantly allow the channel to build.

Also, having made a video, if it’s quality content, the maker has some control over where their content is being displayed. For instance: I get a new knife and do a review, I’d be annoyed if the video was borrowed to market further sales by a seller without my permission, and chances are I wouldn’t know it was being used. I’d want people subbing to my channel and viewing my other stuff, hitting Like and leaving comments.
