What are you supposed to do??

IMHO After several thorough dousings with plenty of water..... burnt remains (if there are any) are scattered - larger pieces left standing char side up (spread around through) more dousing onto the fire pit and dig in a few inches with a stick - more dousing to check that roots etc are...

    Woodlore Camp Craft

I did the course in July and support the recommendations. I think Phil will probably be leading by now - he is excellent - knowlede combined with humour - a powerful tool. while there are lots of things to do it is a more measured pace than other courses - a chance to get deeper into the...

looking around for shirts I bought the Ch BG Nosquito Laredo Long-Sleeved Shirt and Nosquito Lite Long-Sleeved Shirt - liking everything but the logo. Tried picking it off - disaster Then I tried sewing 10mm black elastic tape over the logo - and hey presto a neat and useful modification -...

    Woodlore Camp Craft 2008

I will do when I work out how to post pictures but it is basically a banock - but without the animal fat half brown flour, half white flour, baking powder (which has baking soda and cream of tartar) to the manufacturer's instructions (from memory 4 tsp per 240gms) plus some salt. I dry...

    Woodlore Camp Craft 2008

Hi Surrey Yeoman (and sandbender - a journeyman reunion!) Just done the camp craft - great experience - you should enjoy it NO need to take your own tarp Take some decent food - I took proper food - everyone else was rehydrating unidentifiable 'stuff' - there is enough time to feed...

Fjallraven Falt jacket or Swazi Tahr?

Just bought one of these as I was looking for a tough outdoors smock. Got XL which was too much - they swapped it no Questions or postal charge for a Large which is much better. Have not used it yet - due to in 2 weeks so can't vouch for water proofness, but feels roomy and a good fit (I am...

Ray Mears - as off topic as you like :)

Who would trust a skinny survival expert? Actually - when you meet RM he never claims to be a 'survival' expert - he is fascinated by how indigenous peoples use the land - and most of his UK stuff is historic research into how UK people must have survived. Some stuff he brings up to date...

The people who got the most out of it put the most into it - I guess that goes without saying! Get excited - I would hazard to say that it is the most lifechanging of events! You are in good hands - fantastic instructers There are NO shortcuts! I think the only really serious...

stove and pot combination for week at a time

My thoughts exactly and I have asked. It is the Woodlore campcraft course .... and the reason I am a bit undecided is that I have done a few courses before (fundamental, journeyman etc) none of which used a stove! .... so I am a bit green in that department and need to find out if I can light a...

stove and pot combination for week at a time

Thanks for those - so is it definately Gas then hex over a meths driven penny stove? I used to use the hex ones in the army ... great for a brew! but wondered if the penny stove was any good - I think I read 9 mins for 500Ml of water, which is quite slow? Thanks James

stove and pot combination for week at a time

I am off in a month on a course that is self catered and have not done this before (the kit list includes a stove - whereas I have only ever used open fire before). Anyone have any advice .... I have looked at the jetboil and larger pan version and am concerned that the pans cannot be used...
