    Squirrel

I'm definitely not trying this where I live as it is common to find Squirrel poison Hoppers in the woods. See link http://www.farmforestry.co.uk/poison.html

Well If we can only have two options then I will have to say...Game shooting (with woodland). At least the wildlife has some hope.

    sick hunters

Beautiful woodlands may be preserved as "cover" for game birds in a lot of cases but this is not true in all. I live close to longleat (http://www.longleat.co.uk/) and center parks (also located in the Forest) and they seem to do well on the tourist trade.

Yes I see your point. Its the hunting for entertainment I feel would be shameful. I agree farmers are being paid to give us the meat.

    sick hunters

Yes but I feel there is a difference in in hunting for food and just doing it for entertainment. Hunting for entertainment seems void of any respect for life.

I totally agree with every line (except shooting that German guy or anyone else). Killing for a laugh then getting paid for it is blatant ignorance.

What's a reasonable digital camera for Linux?

I thought KDE was the default desktop for Slackware ? I'm only familiar with KDE and Gnome. Iv found it easy to read SD cards and USB sticks on linux. And Digikam + Showphoto (KDE) is the Swiss army knife for Photos. Each Distro has varying support for multimedia. I don't want to go distro...

    new to firelighting

Tinder wise I think Cotton wool is a good starter and its not cheating because should you be lucky enough to find some old mans beard which looks similar to cotton wool this will go just as well (if not better). By the way carbon steel blades cast a better spark in my opinion. Some tree barks...

What sort of owl this might be ?

After reading all your comments and following the link kindly submitted by Jon Pickett plus doing a little research of my own on the net I feel sure my sighting was that of an eagle owl. The size color and the call it made all match. I feel honored to have seen this bird especially as that owls...

What sort of owl this might be ?

I saw something today that's bugging me. It was an owl bigger than any iv seen in the wild (England). It was massive with a wing span in excess of 3 foot and dark brown. I could not see any markings it seemed brown all over. It was deep in woodland and was an incredible sight to see about 70...

    Best location for Bushcraft

My local haunt will do me. Its a small wood about 4 square Km but its steeped in history. There is an abundance of wild life which has to be seen to be believed. An old highway run`s through it and is reputed to have its own ghost of a highway man and a maiden. When I was walking through the...

    Shelter???

If you just want to spend a day in a limited woodland and time is of the essence then a tarp would only take a short time to set up and a hobo stove would use smaller fallen dead wood and be easier to manage. I would take about 2 hours at best to make a shelter and it would use a lot of wood...

    Wasps in the woods

Bicarb or vinegar works for wasp or bee but you will have to remove the bee sting as it will go on pumping venom into you for about a minute after the attack. Relief is quick and you just dab it on straight away. You should be aware of anaphylactic shock If you get this in the middle of no-where...

    Wood for bows

Iv used the long bow for about 3 years and studied its history too. The bow most likely to meet field requirements would be a self ash bow of the bare bow type (no attachments at all). you can buy all you need to make one from the kit stage. when your bow is made your best buying the arrows to...

    A bit Spiritual

I have walked through some forest and found myself stunned at the beauty of it all. It some times looks like a picture waiting to be painted. The smell of pine or the sight of deer moving swiftly by. How can anyone not be spiritual stirred by such experiences ? I was born and raised in the...
