    Woodland Custodianship

Spotted a story yesterday on the BBC about a woodland that became a red squirrel sanctuary by accident, but the couple who owned it became really passionate about it. Now they are dead the son is trying to sell it for half a million! So perhaps some succession planning is a good idea!

    Recommend me a wristwatch.

This is as close as I can find for quite a tough spec list, and it's still (just) over budget. No details of actual dial size either.

    KMFS VANTAEDGE INTEGRAL SHARPENER

I did consider one of these but if you read my last post you will see what I bought in its stead. ;)

    KMFS VANTAEDGE INTEGRAL SHARPENER

Thought I would update this thread as I finally made a purchase. I ended up getting the SHARPAL® 202H Adjustable Angle Sharpening System. I bought mine from Amazon but other retailers are available. I have used it a couple of times so far and it is exactly what I was looking for, and at a...

    Best size axe

Here is 2 good videos based on Nessmuk's Woodcraft and camping. Small hatchet seems remarkably capable in the right hands.

    Is this fatwood?

You can also get it from a fallen tree where a branch has been broken off while the tree was still standing and alive. The tree sends out sap to heal and plug the wound which then drys as fatwood. I've seen pine trees that are long fallen and have almost rotted away but still have a chunk at a...

    Barlow knife ?

I know this doesn't fit the budget requirements but sometimes it's worth paying for quality.

    News sources

The weird thing about BBC bias is that those on the right think that the BBC is left biased, while those on the left think it is right biased. The BBC will take this as an endorsement that they are getting it right. As far as accuracy in reporting goes, I've seen a few sources on Twitter say...

    What did you buy today?

Very nice. Keep coming across the Wera tools but haven't pulled the trigger on any yet. Does the quality match the price?

    SODBUSTER knife ?

Here you go. Added the ruler for scale.

    SODBUSTER knife ?

The jigged bone one is indeed slimmer. Quite a lot slimmer. For that reason I prefer the yellow handled one. It's also a nice kind of plastic they used for the scales. I think it's delrin or something similar but has a lovely feel. I will try and get a picture for you later.

Lanterns: Can anyone recommend an LED rechargeable lantern?

I have the Nebo Big Poppy. Lantern, torch and powerbank all in one. Usual Nebo quality and the lantern can do bright white or warm fire glow! On offer at B+Q just now as well. Might get another one...

I recently bought the Lorus civilian version of this watch for £59. Decent watch for the money.

    Fight, flight or fawn ?

I've found that my reaction can be any of the three, and not necessarily the one you would expect for any given situation. I genuinely have no idea what I'll do until I'm in the thick of it. I always liked to think of myself as a bit of a 'Dude' character from The Big Lebowski, but in reality...

    Tea

:D Not quite up to the standards of The Kinks but quite amusing. Just reading about your torn muscle and reverting back to coffee reminded me of good old Lofty Wiseman. Just in case there was any doubt about whether tea would be my preferred drink, as an impressionable youngster reading The...

    Tea

The British Army may well have moved on tea but my memories of tea in the army are pretty awful! Horrible, over stewed stuff from a norgy (Norwegian liquid flask), and often wondering if there was bromide in it! Certainly had a taste all of its own. Still, it didn't stop my love for tea. It's...
