    Forum list order

Hi. Can you personally edit the way in which the forum list order is presented? I would like to rearrange them to the order I most read them in. Most interested first, less as the list goes on. At the moment you get a pre selected order that is rigid and not moveable?

    Wanted Leatherman P2 or P4

I like the look of the LM Arc. I can't decide between it or the Victorinox Swiss Tool X Plus Ratchet. I know it doesn't help you but the multi tool choices are bewildering.

    Ray Mears W/S woodlore

In which way do you mean? For the more expensive Ember Leaf with the higher purchase price you got a superior product in comparison to the £300 Alan Wood?

    Antler

If you can wait until January-February find your own. Unlike horns, antler and seasonal and grow every year. When testosterone drops off so do the antlers. Typically Jan thru March. Go a walk to known populations with a little saw and recycle what you can from what you find on the ground.

Hilltrek cotton analogy - any good?

@Paul_B how are you commuting with a rucsac? Walking or cycling?& I think if cycling two years would be telling on any garment. Walking, then high end jackets should not look worn at two years chosen carefully.

Hilltrek cotton analogy - any good?

@Paul_B I have direct experience here so hope I can help. For perspective I had an orange Foinaven smock. It was a medium but was adjusted to have large length arms and body length. Side zips added. This was all easily achieved with a few phone calls. A pleasurable company to deal with...

Government consultation on banning large knives and machetes

Yup I know how you feel. But legislation is suggesting with permission police can come into a private home, see a knife that does not meet criteria, reason it can be used for serious crime then confiscate it and issue punishment. It seems off to me.

Government consultation on banning large knives and machetes

Filled in. I hope this legislation does not go through in the current form. Ever nearing a nanny state. Police the issue more dilligintly and stringently with a strong punishment as a deterrent was my general tone. Infuriating that what would seem to be a city problem could impact wider society...

    Knots - resources to learn?

I think if I learned 6 knots that would cover me for most situations. What would be the 6 "goto' general knots? I think I would like to learn: 1. A knot that when pulled comes easily undone. 2. A knot that "runs" to vary tension. 3. A solid knot that just won't budge. 4. A knot that you see...

    Knots - resources to learn?

I can find plenty of resources for how to tie knots but very little in the way of use and application. For example what knot would you use to secure a tarp? Which knot for guy lines on a tent? Is there a resource which says which knot is best for a given situation?

    Hello.

Hi, Received an instruction from Tony (White bear) to drop a little introduction. I'm located on the west coast of southern Scotland. Primarily I joined the site as an aid for my soon to be teen son. He is displaying a keen interest in the outdoors out with my knowledge base of hillwalking. He...
