For anyone with a TBS Boar and a 3D Printer...

A chap on Reddit has shared a 3D printing file for an insert for a TBS Boar to keep the blade open while using it. Thought it might be appreciated by some here. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6992263

    Woodlore pro knife

I handled some at the wilderness gathering last year and that was my only gripe with it - the handle felt a bit too narrow for me. Lovely blade shape though.

    Woodlore pro knife

I haven't used one myself, but if you wanted a cheaper alternative, Nomad knifeworks make the 'meister' which is based on the original pro. https://nomadknifeworks.com/nkw_meister_knife/

    Any recommended winter bushcraft courses?

Hi Keith, I did indeed! Details of my trip are here: https://bushcraftuk.com/community/threads/trip-report-finland-25-with-wild-human-boreal-forest-expeditions-pic-heavy.167709/ If you're planning to be in Finland anyway, the person to get in touch with is Phil at Boreal Forest Expeditions -...

    What did you buy today?

A JL220 sewing machine new from Gumtree. I borrowed one from the library to mod my kit before Finland, and now the GF has asked me to make some alterations to one of her bags, so I thought that was enough justification to get my own.

Trip Report - Finland '25 with Wild Human & Boreal Forest Expeditions (Pic heavy)

Kupilka is a Finnish brand of camping cutlery and crockery made from resin and recycled wood fibres. We were given a bowl, a spork and a kuksa - a Finnish style of cup which is easy to drink from and just the right shape to reach into ice holes for water. It's good kit in cold weather because...

Trip Report - Finland '25 with Wild Human & Boreal Forest Expeditions (Pic heavy)

Thanks Tony :) Hardest part for me was the first night on the trail. Having just had the hypothermia chat that evening, I was keenly aware of the fact I was shivering in my sleeping bag. Entirely my own fault for thinking I could get away with thin thermals and not bothering to find my hat and...

Trip Report - Finland '25 with Wild Human & Boreal Forest Expeditions (Pic heavy)

The trip was a collaboration between Ben & Debs from Wild Human who teamed up with Phil Thompson who runs Boreal Forest Expeditions and is based in Ivalo, Lapland. It was an expedition style trip where we’d be spending two nights at a Sami homestay, four nights out on the trail and then a final...

I think I'm with Teedee, I use the thumbs up to mean 'appreciate' as much as 'like'

    handdrill technique question

Thanks both for the above. In reply to OP, we were taught hand drill on the Frontier course I did last summer. The biggest piece of advice they gave was to start very gently and not try to get smoke on your first attempt. Instead, practice over the course of the week to build up technique and...

My probably annual winter jacket recommendation thread!!

It won't be for wearing during activity, rather as a mother ship to stay warm during periods of inactivity.

I have one of these: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/men's-winter-waterproof-hiking-parka-sh900-20degc/_/R-p-340344?mc=8755599&c=smoked+black Very pleased with it so far, and it'll be tested in Lapland next week so I'll let you know if I make it.

What do you lot do for a living?

If I had a band, I'd call it Anal Paperwork Goblin. But instead I work in advertising. Started my 'career' in Bristol working at a television post-production company. Moved to the BBC for a year and a half as a production assistant aka dogsbody/jack of all trades - filming, editing, sound...

    What did you buy today?

An Enzo Birk 75 in D2 with ivory scales. Wickedly sharp and such a smooth action. Can't understand why they don't make this any more, chuffed I found one.

    What did you buy today?

Just received some MTP ECW mittens and wool liners for Lapland in a couple of weeks. Not affiliated with them, but a shout out to In2thewilderness.co.uk for good prices, good service and good communication.

    What are you currently reading?

I've sadly reached the end of the 'Lee' books. I read a couple co-written with his brother but got as far as 'Better Off Dead' and found it unreadable. Just biding my time until I start back at the beginning. The series is a very welcome bonus.
