    Traditional Canvas, Leather Pack.

The Duluth and Frost River are about the same weight. They are local companies to me. Frost River is better to me, nice guys and they are not so gentrified as Duluth.

Stormy Kromer Mackinaw Coat and Vest.

Best thing made in the Upper Peninsula besides pasties. I live 45 miles from their store.

    Basic Bushcraft Fishing pt 1

It's interesting to read your accounts of fishing as they are similar but different to those in the United States. When I started fishing 40+ years ago, my father cut a willow stick for rod. Nothing fancy, no reel, but I caught fish. Now I have all kinds of equipment, but not the thrill as the...

    Iisakki: Jarvenpaa Aito Puukko

I have one and like it. No problems with it. The sheath looks nice but it is a bit thin. I do not carve with mine. Didn't buy it as a carving knife. Cleaning fish, game or cutting up vegetables it does great. Makes tent pegs and other small projects fine. It is in this group.
  9. Q

    spatulas

I need to do a few for home. Most of the ones sold in stores fit poorly in the hand. One thing about these, if you mess up, the wood stove removes all evidence.:p
  10. Q

How do I keep my wood buring stove going 24/7?

Man I haven't used coal since back in the early 70s. I burn wood all winter. The drier the wood the better on an air tight stove. I prefer the less efficient because it will burn wetter wood. No matter what, I refill every 5 hours when the temp gets from +15 to -20F. Oh yeah and I clan my...

what's your prefered pocket knife? + pics!

This is my favorite, although I rotate through a bunch.

    Hobbies??

Leather work is my inside hobby. I need to learn to sew better. Also soon I will start to refurbish some old Coleman lanterns.
  13. Q

    kephart knife to buy?

I have been surprised by my Woodcraft. A different style grind taper but it works superbly. What it lacks, a good pocket knife would offset nicely.
  14. Q

    kephart knife to buy?

Yes, most Kep's look like an Old Hickory butcher knife with the scimitar top hump knocked off.
  15. Q

    kephart knife to buy?

Condor Tool and Knife has one coming this year that will be inexpensive. Otherwise many custom makers make a form of it.
  16. Q

    knives and how many

Asking how many knives a person has is like asking a rancher how many cows he has or a Sammi how many reindeer. I am over the top of the list but don't keep count. As to Hoodoo this how he moves his knives.
  17. Q

    Duluth Bushcrafter Pack

Duluth Pack makes real good stuff. Their main clientele are canoeists. So the hiking deficits don't matter to them and the packs wear like iron. They last for years.
  18. Q

Removing smell & taste from canteens?

I use bleach to clean, then fill with lemon water. Let it stand for a couple of days. I use this and it always works.
  19. Q

Scandis, the four musketeers Pic heavy

I really like the black one. Real nice. Good job.

    Another thought

Bushcraft definately has better toys to play with. I agree that primitive skills go steps beyond. Not many people want to go there full time. Even primitive cultures wanted things that advanced cultures had. I love going out in the desert and seeing Pueblo ruins. Would I really want to...
