    For Sale £35 - Swedish m39 rucksack

Hey, it seems I also missed the notification for this! Yes I'd still happily take it without the spares.

    For Sale £35 - Swedish m39 rucksack

Sweet, I'll take it please! I'd potentially be interested in any spare bits and bobs you have, depending on cost. Not really after the metal part of the frame but spare straps and canvas for mods would be handy. No stress if it's gonna be a pain to find though!

Draft Collar Cinch Mod for Snugpak Underblanket

Decided to try to fix the terrible suspension system on my snugpak UQ once and for all. I've experimented with a bunch of no-sew mods to which try to compensate for the lack of cincheable end-channels but none of them really worked for me and I felt like I was unpacking a parachute every time I...

    Mini moot

I'm Sussex based and would have been up for this. Unfortunately I'm supposed to be at a wedding over those dates. But if that's postponed (again) or if you settle on different dates I'm interested.

    Using Blackcurrants

I like to tip a handful or two of frozen blackcurrants into my morning porridge just before serving. My gf and I got through a full freezer drawer full in a couple of months like this. Supermarket berries just don't have the same punch, sadly.

    The Covid19 Thread

I think it's quite funny how pretty much everyone has such a strong opinion on why the government approach is absolutely terrible every step of the way. Can people accept that this pandemic is a problem of mind-boggling complexity, the likes of which the world has never known? And yet almost...

Moot 2020 Is it or is it not

Sad to hear this; I'm new to the community and would have loved the opportunity to meet some of you in person, but count me in for the next one :)

    Great Spotted Woodpecker

I've had one on my peanut feeder every day for the last week after not having had one come down all winter. It could be a change in the availability of food, although that seems strange coming into spring..

    Folding Bucksaw

Thanks, that's high praise indeed. The only thing I'd advise against is to cut so deeply into the handles between the paracord holes and the mortices. It's a nice aesthetic choice but on reflection I'm a bit worried about that whole section shearing off if the tension is too high.

    Folding Bucksaw

Another lockdown project, this one a bit quicker. I ordered a 24" Bahco dry cut blade and based the proportions off that. I used oak, mostly because I had some well-seasoned in the workshop, but it's also a very strong wood so a decent choice in it's own right. I used slotted head bolts for...

    My first knife

I thought people were just winding me up to start with. I've honestly gazed at it for ages in all different lights and I just can't see it :O_O: Thanks for the kind words all! When I do next make a knife you'll be the first to hear of it! I'm thinking some kind of hidden tang carver to...

    My first knife

I've forged a small neck knife for my girlfriend before, and put a handle on a Condor Bushlore, but this was my first time making a full-sized knife from start to finish. I've wanted a woodlore for as long as I can remember, so I designed the knife based on that (sort of). The handle is around 4...

    LAVVU

Those are really adorable! Personally I'd just go with a lavvu, one of the really nice things about it is the fact that it's canvas (and that they're pitch black so you can sleep in hehe). I settled for the medium despite being 6'2 and I don't regret it. I would've done fine without any mods...

Advice for 16 year old buying a lock knife?

I don't think it's particularly helpful to state your opinion on what you think the law is. To quote the government guidance: It’s illegal to: sell a knife to anyone under 18, unless it has a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less There is no mention at all of gifting a knife to...

Advice for 16 year old buying a lock knife?

My advice would be to go for a legal sub 3" folder for the time being. Provided it's reasonably well-made there are very few instances where the lack of a locking mechanism is going to be a major problem. I would, however, disagree with those saying that a 16 year old should never carry any...

    What did you buy today?

Not very exciting, but a small sheet of clear perspex. I'm going to make a little window to replace the stove flashing on my lavvu in the summer. I tested it last night with the front cover of a CD case and was very pleased with the amount of light it let in, but it cracked very quickly. The...

Getting back into bushcraft after a long hiatus

Thanks for the sudden resurgence of welcomes! I've been slowly acquiring/making more gear and having a great time at it. The knife is 99% done now, just working my way up to a nice tung oil finish but I'll likely post some pics in the next day or two since I doubt there'll be much difference on...
