Closest true wilderness to the uk.

Your best bets are really not in the UK or Europe. While lovely and scenic, human culture has shaped and built those areas for centuries. For what I think of as "classic UK" wilderness, I would suggest more remote regions of Canada and Alaska. Even there, native populations have contributed to...

    Customs/tax?

Shipped out of the USA should not charge sale tax but, you will need to pay UK customs import duty. Going the other way, if it is less than $800USD including shipping, it arrives to me in Texas, USA customs import duty-free.

    £250 survival knife...

Why not a small Bushcraft-oriented axe? I see people all over the place recommending large field knives for wood processing and shelter building. The Busse Battle Mistress was a classic for that on this side of the Atlantic though, there is a large group of Skrama advocates too. Simply put, I...

    £250 survival knife...

XHP70.x for a larger reflector and XHP50.x for the smaller ones works really well for me on my farm with a balanced flood and throw. Convoy, Wurkkos, and Sofirm all provide good cost-effective options for those. The new FC13 with XHP50.2 from Amazon for $17USD including battery is sized like a...

    £250 survival knife...

ABSOLUTELY! Pretty common for new flashlight geeks on another forum I participate in. How do they know if they like warm, neutral, or cool emitters? Are, flood versus throw and how much of each? Turns out, my friend really needed high CRI for color accuracy above all else. The UV flashlight...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Typically BBC America news coverage on the local BBCA station newscasts. BBC.com has had a video or two I have seen on this topic as well.

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Coming full circle, whether someone has a big knife or even a sword at home, what risk is there to other people? My firearm is not a risk to my neighbors either.

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

I see random attacks by knife in places like the UK and New Zealand occasionally, though honestly a bit randomly. I have also seen a few reports of knife killings in a UK pub being appealed for leniency due to being crimes of "passion" and not premeditated attacks.

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Politics are mainly about emotion and rarely about facts. My perception of BREXIT from afar was that it was based on emotions and feelings with few tangible facts. The results don't seem to be what either side expected. 9/11 was initially about the facts but, ended up being about the emotions...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

Gun deaths are a lot more likely between unknown persons during an act of crime. A knife attack generally is pretty rare during a common crime.

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

I haven't been around any knife deaths in the USA. Sure, the USA has some stabbings but, they rarely make the news, normally are between people known to each other, and often are gang-related and in a gangland area, not public parks or schools for example. The UK on the other hand makes the...

    £250 survival knife...

With your budget, I would say two better options for those tasks is better than one that does neither as well. https://www.lamnia.com/en/sc/5/knives/fixed-blade-knives?mid=826 These Rokka knives are really good and are worth consideration...

    £250 survival knife...

Nathan Carothers does simply awesome work. It is hard to get one of his blades because so many people want them. For a one and done knife, CPK is the way to go. Not sure how hard it would be to get on into the UK these days and at what cost.

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

First, TLDR all of this thread. Knives like that were popular a long time ago but, weren't really practical to the vast majority of people that bought them. Even if given one, I'm not sure what I would do with it personally as I have much better tools for the jobs it could do (meaning legal...

Powering gadgets - battery banks or solar charger?

I got this one from Amazon for $26USD plus tax: INIU Portable Charger, 22.5W 20000mAh USB C in & Out Power Bank Fast Charging, PD 3.0+QC 4.0 LED A little bulky overall but a really good unit at a modest cost from Amazon. It has a lot of functionality that isn't really needed so, a simpler one...

Powering gadgets - battery banks or solar charger?

Your best option is probably going to be a good quality Velcro with the fuzzy side glued to the back of your solar panels and the "sticker" side on your backpack either on Molle or possibly sewn onto your backpack. In fairness though, the size of those panels probably won't provide much power...

    Banned dogs - thoughts

The 6ft-lb rule on airguns in the UK and a lot of Europe always seemed ridiculous to me, especially since a lot of the 25~35ft-lb air rifles were made there! There is a lot of need for things like that in more rural parts of the UK which seems to be possible with some licensing but, that is...
