    Best ways to backup

The problem with a lot of these suggestions is that they assume that the back up is a one time activity - burn to disk, copy to USB stick etc. Yes, that may secure this lot of photos, but what about the next lot, and the ones after that? Are you going to remember to keep burning discs/updating...

    Best ways to backup

If you are going to do that, there are far easier/better ways of storing them in the cloud than emailing them all to yourself. Dropbox, google drive, one drive, iCloud etc....

    Best ways to backup

The other benefit to the above approach is you don't have to do anything - just set it up which will take an hour or two and then just forget about it!

    Best ways to backup

I'd recommend the following approach. 1. Get an external hard drive that attaches to your home network. I'd recommend Western Digital. They usually come with software that you set up on your computer that backs up folders of your choosing, on a schedule of your choosing. You can then just set...

    Taking knife hiking in UK

It is illegal to bring into the UK, sell, hire, lend or give anyone the following: butterfly knives (also known as ‘balisongs’) - a blade hidden inside a handle that splits in the middle disguised knives - a blade or sharp point hidden inside what looks like everyday objects such as...

    Taking knife hiking in UK

To carry ANY knife with blade longer than 3inches, or with ANY length fixed blade,or ANY lock knife, you have to have a "good reason" A folding knife that doesn't lock with a blade less than 3 inches may be carried without a reason required. Certain knives are banned and illegal full stop - e.g...

    Parachute shelter?

So, we've done this. We have a central pole made from 4 or 5 metre long gas pipes about 2inches in diameter. We've threaded the pipes and have a pipe on an L shaped connector at 90degrees on the bottom for stability. All we then do is screw the pipes together, hook the parachute centre to the...

sleeping bags: pipedream 600 vs skyehigh 900

The pipe dream is rated warmer using the standardised EN test. It also weights 50% less. No contest....unless your size comes into it. I looked at the pipe dream recently and the reviews and dimensions led me to conclude that it would be tight for me - 180cm and 95kg. The sky highs are...

    Down sleeping bag?

Whilst both will lose loft overtime and therefore warmth, it is generally accepted by "experts" that this happen more quickly with Synthetic. Dependant on usage and storage Synthetic might last 3-5 years and down 8-10. Also, re-sale value is much higher for down, especially known brands. So...

    Down sleeping bag?

Also, it depends if you want to pack and carry it. The Lamina mentioned weighs >1.7kg and will be relatively large and not compress as well as a down bag. Also the down bag may cost a little more but will last longer. As in anything, what you want to use it for is the key.

    North Face Blue Kazoo

So in the end I got a Marmot Sawtooth for £180 from Jackson-Sports. It arrived quickly so great service. Initial impressions are good. Fit is as described. Perfect for someone 6 "0 or less. Midriff and shoulder fit is relatively generous as far as these things go - fits my 36 waist and 44...

    North Face Blue Kazoo

Good advice thanks. I find Rab bags generally quite tight. The ME bags seem a good option, but based on specs, I think the Marmot edges it. That Ascent 700 is a great price for that Bag though.

    North Face Blue Kazoo

Ok, so that didn't work out. After some confusing messages from TrekInn they don't have one of these in stock. Still no clarification of when/if when they will be issuing a refund. I'd avoid this company if I were you. The order still shows as in stock on their website and that it is being...

    North Face Blue Kazoo

Bagged it in the end from TrekInn for £173 delivered. Long, right hand zip which is what I wanted. Good tip on Black Friday, completely forgot about that!

Yes, ideally would try it but can't find anywhere local to do that. I've seen it for £186 which seemed a good price to me...

    North Face Blue Kazoo

Hi, I've been looking for a new sleeping bag. Currently I've got a Rab Atlas 500 and a Carinthia Defence 4. I find the Rab too cold, narrow and constrictive when the temperatures drop to low single digits, but I like the pack size and weight. The Carinthia is huge when packed and heavy - not...

    Leathermen

It might be a Juice CS4. That has both. And a corkscrew.....as well as a host of other useful tools. I love mine.

Poor quality family tent - any advice?

You should take it back to the shop where you bought it with the receipt, explain the faults and ask for a refund - or an alternative tent.
