    Backpack recommendation need

Looking into a new backpack, and not so easy since our local millets closed down, which as well as depriving me of a handy outdoor store also put me out of a job (I was the assistant manager!) so I thought I'd put it out here for recommendations. What I need is as follows:- * 35 - 45 litre...

Recommend me a heavy weight mountain military fleece

Im not sure of the thickness for either of them but I have the Austrian army fleece which has reinforced shoulders, a high collar that fastens around your chin and a Berghaus activity fleece, I would recommend either but be more inclined to go for the Austrian as its also water repellent. I also...

    Austrian Army Mountain Sweater

I got one of the Mil-Tec ones that arrived this week, its excellent quality and amazingly warm. And now its here the summer weather has started here in NI where I live! I got mine from a German ebay seller. I'm almost hoping for the winter so I can test it out!

Just got the Tatonka website open in another window ATM thanks for the input fellas. As for the aluminium thing, true theres no hard evidence I'd just rather not risk it :)

    From the top....

It has its uses, I've had times I've had to cross rivers and stuff or get up a vertical obstacle that I cant climb that easily with the weight on my back and in that case the rope comes in handy then as well!

Stainless steel pots / cookware. Anyone recommend a brand / website

Title says it all. I've been using aluminium for a while and I'd like to change due to the brain-dissolving properties of aluminium. I recall all those (20) years ago when I was in Army Cadets and I had a stainless steel mess tin with lid that was excellent. Does anybody know where I would find...

    Advice on surplus clothing

I always stick with genuine issue clothing, when I used to airsoft some guys got copies of flecktarn from the far east because it was cheaper to get brand new than genuine stuff (I OTOH was using 2nd hand surplus - shirts £5 and £10 trousers!) and after the first game their brand new 'repro' £35...

    Poncho or Waterproofs

It depends a lot on circumstances. If I'm on a day hike I like to use the jacket and pants, if I have my big backpack on then I use a poncho as it covers the pack as well, plus I get a bit hot and sweaty when carrying a big pack and less so when using a poncho (I don't feel the cold, so...

    From the top....

Still new here, so heres what I have in my webbing and Bergen and then we can compare notes:- Webbing - I use a Splav assault vest with buttpack to hold most of my survival items (firesteel, first aid kit, gloves survival bag, pouch meals, mess tins, wind up radio, wind up torch, you get the...

    Advice on surplus clothing

I use army surplus flecktarn stuff myself, Danish and German. I do make a point of warning people to use only military issue, some of the guys I used to airsoft with bought cheap junk from the far east and after a days play they had white patches on knees and elbows from crawling around

    Poncho or Waterproofs

A bit of a mix. I normally stick with waterproof jacket and pants, but if I have a big ruck on then I use the waterproof pants and a poncho to keep the pack covered as well + I tend to get a bit hot and sweaty carrying the big pack so the extra ventile afforded by the poncho comes in handy. I...
