    Coleman camp oven

I'm another very happy owner of the coleman oven for many years, mine mainly gets used to show off by cooking fabulous pizzas, but has also been used to make bread, cakes, and various parts of a big roast dinner for a big group. You can do 2 pizzas at once, although you only get 1 shelf with...

    Desert Island Community

This sounds very much like a project that got some telly coverage last year called 'tribe wanted' http://www.tribewanted.com/ They seem to keep a video diary on youtube (linked to from their front page)

    glow sticks

not the 'huge' ones you see special forces use in films, but I get all my glow sticks from this guy, they're a fraction of the cost you pay in shops. the 6" ones are what I'd use around camp and hung up in a tent and the 8" tri-colour are what I'd give to kids to throw around and generally play...

    Cheap specs and prescription shades

Thanks! I've only recently started having to wear glasses, and I've been meaning to get some cheaper ones for using outdoors that I wouldn't mind quite so much if I damaged/broke. These look ideal and a tiny fraction of the extortionate price I payed at specsavers for silly ultra-thin...

    Tripod grill

the webpage says "Enamelled fire bowl", and it looks the same as mine which is just black enamelled - having said that, I have no sign of rust inside, but a little bit on the underside. I should probably think about painting some protection on it.

    Tripod grill

It looks to be the same as the one I got from them some 4 or 5 years ago. The fire pit base is good, very large. We use it when car camping a few times per year with no sign of any damage yet. However, the hanging grill bit was pants, we tried it when we got it, and it was too unstable -...

    pee in a bottle

I wandered around the supermarket last weekend trying to find some liquid/produce that comes in a suitable wide-necked light-weight bottle but gave up. I had considered a nalgene bottle but I can't convince myself to do it to the poor thing. Then came the 'doh' moment, as I was rinsing out...

    Best present ever??

Mrs Badger got me a Japanese Waterstone Set *purr* It's so hard to think up things for people to get me, especially as now I'm older and working - I tend to just buy anything I need during the year anyway. So I chose something that I hope will last a long long time, but is a bit too...

food to carry - advice please

I can't believe nobody else uses instant mashed potato!? I used to almost live on the cheese and onion smash, but they've changed the recipe/ingredients this year and it is no longer to my taste - The sainsburys own-brand mash is just how I remember the old smash to be and comes in foil...

    Good winter car camping bag

I'm 6'3" and very well built, I just about fit into a nanok -0 if I have to carry my bag, but for comfort it has to be a big rectangular bag, I have one of these: http://www.oswaldbailey.co.uk/eshop.asp?wci=product&wce=52403102 Campus Adventure 300 XL (actually that looks like a newer...

    Campsite in Swanage

Burnbake is awesome :headbang: , we go there at the begining and end of every season. in fact I'm off there in a week's time! Just to make it clear, you can't have fires directly on the ground, but if you bring a fire pit or bbq base or something they're quite happy for you to get a roaring...

Any comments so far for the new survivorman season?

I've seen up to the 4th episode in series 2. So far it is as awesome as the previous series so I would encourange anyone to watch these for the realism and practical survival stuff rather than a bunch of theory and ancient tribal skills which you get with Ray and others (Don't get me wrong, I...

    Filtering and treating flood waters?

Given how cheaply you can rig up rain water harvesting/storage to feed the toilets it should be illegal NOT to put this in every new house built. I've suggested it to work as we have the top 2 floors of a building in cheltenham with a flat roof and when it rains there are just 1000s of Ls...

    The Best Head Torch

another vote for the Lidl LED head torches. I got a black one a year or two ago that has 3 LEDs and is still going strong. earlier this year i got a newer blue one that has 7 LEDs and is much brighter. but the on/off button on the newer one is a bit tricky with my fat fingers. I've...

Nanok -10 sleeping bag - other uses?

I'm just using mine to store the bag uncompressed, it seems a good size for that.

    Purification

I have an MSR miniworks and it's brilliant. If I have to purify the water I tend to add a few drops (use product guidelines though) of the MSR chlorine solution after pumping and then leave the water container in the sun for a few hours - it seems to decompose and a lot of the taste goes away...
