    Your picture of the day...

Hi Sandbender, nice pic of Budapest there! I see you have the same shi...y weather as we do. I think it's not as bad as it seems with the hills on the Buda side of the river. I like hiking there very much. It's quite scenic once you are there. With the other side you are totally right, flat...

How old was your child for penknives

Got my first tiny SAK (copy) from my grandfather when I was around 6 years old. It had a very small blade, not more than 2". I've used it quite often for small tasks and it never bit me.

The Fiery Pants of Shame - Norwegian holiday/Arctic course report.

Thank you very much for this great story, Imagedude! I still have to chuckle from your adventures with the fiery pants of shame :o Have you ever thought about earning your money as a humorous travel writer? You're good at that!

Glen Coe weekend , pics heavy ....

Wow, marvelous pics! Been there last spring. I'm surprised that there is so little snow. Has it been a mild winter up there or is spring coming so fast now?

    Peru- Crime??

I've been to Peru and Bolivia in 2010. I did not encounter any crime problems there. Simply behave as you would in any third world country. Don't show off your wealth, be friendly (but don't trust everybody, either) and keep your eyes open to what happens around you. Then you'll be fine...

Wild camping around Sweden / Norway

Don't worry about the wildlife, the heavy snow on the roads will get you first if you really want to go by bike :hatscarf: Why not start a bit later in the year? Maybe April? At least in the south you will have spring then.

Aurora Borealis VS Paris in March

The lights are said to be particularly bright and plenty this year. You should get as close to the polar circle as you can. A friend of mine goes to Abisko in February, only to hunt for northern lights. Wish you best of luck for spotting them!

First brew with my new woodstove (newbie lessons learnt)

Hi there, I tried again this afternoon, this time minding your advice, and it worked much better! Hazelnut was my wood of choice this time. Maybe not ideal either, but it burnt much longer and also produced some good embers. Water for two mugs full of tea was ready in roughly 8 minutes. The tip...

    For a bit of fun

Best would be to have a little chat with JohnD's ghostly visitor on his hidden island. This overnighter crime/ghost-story still gives me the creeps :yikes:

    hultafors

I can also recommend the Hultafors. It's reeeeaaally cheap and even more robust than the typical Mora. You can get one made of Japanese carbon steel, ideal as an easy bushcraft knife.
