Best Concerts Youve Ever Been Too

I remember seeing the Enid a few times in Sheffield & Leeds. Robert Godfrey was a very strange man indeed. Banging keyboard player though. Amazing guitarist whose name escapes me. They were wasted on Dingwalls customers really!

Best Concerts Youve Ever Been Too

Stevie Wonder in Hyde Park a few years ago, Elio Pace in Kendal a couple of years ago and Thin Lizzy in Sheffield 40 years ago.

    I, Robot , I Soldier.

To be fair, the next logical step, after “ robot wars “, would be just to let two supercomputers “play” the war like a game of chess. War would be short, as the outcome would soon be inevitable and obvious, so the losing side would surrender early. War would also be cheap, as none of the...

Laguiole - what is it about them?

I have a few Laguiole knives. The olive one in the picture is one I was given in France as a leaving gift from the school I was teaching in. 1980-ish. The others have been picked up in France or in trades or sales with trusted suppliers. These are all typical Laguiole and decent quality except...

For Sale Reduced. Fox Knives Edge Neck-knife

Sheath does not come with a belt loop or clip, just the neck chain it came with. The sheath is riveted though, so easy enough to use some paracord or similar to create a belt attachment. There are a couple of tutorials on YouTube on how to do this. Cheers, Simon

    Spoonfest 2026 Anyone going?

I was planning to go by train this year but as it has worked out I will be going by car instead. Does anyone need a lift? I will be driving down the M6 from Kendal & then across to Edale via Stockport.

    Spoonfest 2026 Anyone going?

Yes. Robin Wood hosts at Spoonfest along with Barn the Spoon. Always some nice tools & toys on site for purchase. That knife was a prototype for a very slicey sloyd for long cuts. It works very well.

    Spoonfest 2026 Anyone going?

Anyone else attending Spoonfest this year in Edale? I’m going again as a volunteer so please say hi if you come by the pizza oven. Just assuming that’s where I will be again. Cheers, Simon Pic for attention.

    Fermented pine or fir tips?

I remember reading a while back about fermenting pine or fir tips to create a syrup without using heat so that the true nature of the fir is revealed in the syrup. I think if recommended Douglas Fir as a good one to start with. Has anyone tried this? Is it worth doing and what did you do with...

    Walking sticks and staffs

I have a pair of Black Diamond ones which I bought after an injury. Now I’m older and have a few more health issues I appreciate them more than ever. They also work as poles for my MSR tent and do collapse down pretty small for stowing away. They do help with stability for sure. I think the...

Best option for a slicey, 3-4” full tang stainless blade with a flat grind?

No complaints about this slicey little knife from QSP. Butch enough to cope with a bit of harder work too.

    Compact emergency food supply.

Plus one for vacpacked flapjacks. Homemade with lots of fruit & nuts. They are so high in sugar that they keep for months this way. Another bonus is you can break them up for porage & just add warm milk. I’d add some fruit leather as well, for chewing on now and then.

    Emergency signalling

Strobe is a very good shout I think. The only advantage from the smoke grenade would be to indicate wind strength on the ground.

    Knives for beginners?

Someone else said Mora or potentially an Opinel. I’d agree with that. Both good quality for the money; Opinel tends to be crazy sharp out of the box too. Get a pocket saw for the wood processing.

    What's your go-to Spyderco?

After having a few over the years I’ve only got one Urban left. I had a couple rescaled in Jabroc a few years ago. I sold the other one , a UKPK, a while ago & think I will probably let the Urban go as well. The blade has been etched on it too. Let me know if you fancy one.

    Show us your watches

A friend recommended Steinhart to me years ago & I bought one. It is a total tank of a watch & keeps excellent time. If you like something that is seriously functional give their range a look. I wear it far more than any of my other watches.

    Horn spoons

I’ve got lots of blocks of beeswax. How much do you need? Those little spoons are cute.
