    Hand Drill: Aching Hands

All that pain is from over-using the muscles and tendons. Sounds obvious, I know, but that is what you need to fix. Try to relax the deathgrip on the bow. Vigorous arm movement will make your brain automatically grab on like your life depends on it. Try to see how loose you can hold the bow...

Life in the old axe yet

A very good call on the yew, its beautiful. I can certainly see why axe doesn't want to go home.

    My One Handed Spoon!!!!!!

It seems that everyone has a "smart" hand and a "dumb" hand. The "dumb" hand is the one that always gets in the road of knives, hammers, car doors, hatchets and anything else the "smart" hand is aiming its' way. Smart hand is usually an overconfident bully, nowhere near as smart as it thinks it...

    Good old axe.

I think you may want to keep the handles "chunky" if you are going to use the nail puller. Pulling the handle sideways will develop a LOT of stress on a stubborn nail. I would think that this sideways stress is why the handle is more of a square profile than rectangular that we usually think of...

    Advice for cutting round nails

If you want a tool that will be of some use after the job is done, you could use Vise-Grips. http://www.irwin.com/irwin/consumer/jhtml/detail.jhtml?prodId=IrwinProd100317 These have a cutter that works well, although it does take some hand strength. Don't scrimp on these. If it isn't Vice-Grip...

    My first Bushcraft knife!

    A silly man?

Thank you for that JohnBoy. Very well said. My only extrapolation from this is, if he was confident enough to go for 4 days with almost nothing, he probably felt reasonably confident in his abilities. Yes, -12 C can kill you, but here in Canada that is considered a beautiful day for...

    Urban myth or what?

Back when I was doing a lot of welding on trailers, I had one recurring repair that involved standing on my head and cutting large parts of the frame apart. Once, after a large pile of slag built up, the cement underneath it exploded. A chunk of something hit my welding mask, broke it, then...

Hay Rakes and how I make them (Pic Heavy)

I know what you mean, but methinks he has done this once or twice before ;) Muddypaws: Thank you for a wonderful tutorial! You make it look almost easy. One of the things that really stand out though, is the forked rest for your shave horse. Such a simple idea, but I know I wouldn't have...

    Resurrecting old entrenching tool

Soaking for a couple of days in a pail of automotive antifreeze will swell it back up. I have done this to a few old axe handles, and it tightens them right up. They don't seem to ever dry out again. Good luck.

Car battery to power lights etc?

I know Honda makes a small generator that you almost have to touch to tell if its running, its that quiet. They are rather pricey, being Honda and all, but they are well made. A minimum of maintenance will ensure it will always be ready. I'm not sure of the fuel consumption, but you would only...

theres a hole in my chicken feeder

A bit of cardboard cut to fit the bottom? Is there enough left of the bottom to hold it? Maybe even some newspaper, easier to fit up the sides?

Dutch ovens do they always need seasoning

JamieG, there are no hard and fast rules for seasoning cast iron. All you are trying to do is to infuse oil into the iron to prevent it from rusting. As a side benefit, the oil tends to make it non-stick. The theory is: heat the iron up to open up the pores, insert oil, allow it to cool and...

    New kitchen/camp Nessie

I thought it looked quite nice until I saw this... Now I can't get the image outof my head  Still think its a very nice knife, and the woodgrain is lovely. The moon shaped stamping on the sheath is a nice touch. Something about the shape of a Nessie....it just looks like its meant to...

    Sit Awhile...

A hunting buddy brought one of the tripods out one year, and I ended up using it. He forgot to take it back, and I used it all the time. I had it so long that when I gave it back, he had forgotten it was his! I have since found out what they cost, I'll have to let the moths out of the wallet...
