    Mini ''Glow stick'' light's?

They're known in military circles as "cyalume" sticks, and if you use that in your search it should give you slightly higher grade results than just searching for glow sticks.

Sloes before hoes! Or a question about sloe gathering

It looked like a large hedge, probably over 6 foot tall, and twisting round itself in a very uninviting way. It looked tangly, but i didn't specifically notice any thorns. Not saying there weren't any, but i didn't particularly see any with a fairly casual look. What other berry could pass as a...

Sloes before hoes! Or a question about sloe gathering

Sounds good! I'll head back up there soon as i get a day free. Interesting. I also read in the Mears book that the traditional way to gather them was to beat the bushes and gather them off the ground. Not entirely sure how to do that though, other than just grabbing a branch on the way and...

    February Moot 2018 - Cancelled

I'm interested, but need to make certain about dates before i book anything. Do i just stroll up with a sleeping bag and tarp or is there something else i'd need to do?

Sloes before hoes! Or a question about sloe gathering

So i was out last week and came across a number of bushes with berries on them, the berries were black with some light blue shadowy shades on a lot of them. After a little bit of research at home i'm fairly sure they're sloes, and there are some possibilities with sloes. In one of Mears books he...

Article: Best places to see UK wildlife

Homo motorbikers? Sounds interesting... Funnily enough the first time i saw a seal in the wild, in the UK, was while on great Yarmouth beach. There was one offshore just had his head popped up looking at the people on the beach for a couple minutes, and then was gone. Not a place i was...

Mate, that's the first time anything has made me want to visit Fife.

    Panther Caught on Game Cam

Just switch to boomerang bullets like they use in Australia, they always return to sender. Remember to duck though.

    Anyone in Sweden this summer?

Sorry i missed this post, i head to Sweden all the time! Though unfortunately i haven't done too much hiking there. Could you post a review of how it went for you, and any recommendations you have?

    Time/Distance calculations.

The way i do it is to find the distance and ascent over the course of the route, divide it by Naismith's rule (3 mph, and 2,000' ph), then add on how long i think i'll be stopping to eat/take pics/etc, and then on top of that i'll just add a generous fudge factor depending on how rough i think...

Thinking of making a millbank bag

Even using a generous portion of leg will still leave plenty over for charcloth, and even if it doesn't work i can dry it out and rip it up for char cloth after anyway, so it's no loss trying. I'll keep you updated on this, i should have it done by the weekend. :)

Thinking of making a millbank bag

I have a pair of jeans that are no longer usable, but rather than throwing them away i wanted to see if i could make use of them. One of the ideas i came up with was using one of the legs for a home made millbank bag. Probably not up to scratch compared to a real one, but the denim should be...

Acclimatisation - how long does it take and how well does it work?

As a follow up, there have been some studies done on Shaolin monks showing that they can raise their core temperature at will. During visits to remote monasteries in the 1980s, Benson and his team studied monks living in the Himalayan Mountains who could, by g Tum-mo meditation, raise the...

    Non expensive kit

I'm guessing it was flash boiled with a hot stone wrapped in something to stop it burning the bag? I can't imagine paper holding out too well over an open fire. :p

Tell me what i'm doing wrong at sharpening (video)

Thanks. :) Since those videos i've gone out and bought a leather belt so i can now strop with something a bit more effective than cardboard! I took the SAK in this video and stropped it a number of times until it got to the point where i could actually pull it through a piece of paper slowly...

Acclimatisation - how long does it take and how well does it work?

The native people of Tierra Del Fuego walked around completely naked in a subpolar climate comparable to that of Iceland, and they survived alright.

Acclimatisation - how long does it take and how well does it work?

Interesting. Between this and the video on acclimatising to extremely hot weather, it looks like the human body adapts pretty well within a week or so, depending on the individual of course. I would imagine longer term adaptation would still give smaller improvements for quite some time...

Acclimatisation - how long does it take and how well does it work?

Does that go for kiwis of all origins? The Polynesians look like they'd have wide feet regardless of where they grew up.

Acclimatisation - how long does it take and how well does it work?

Sorry, i may have given the wrong impression. I wasn't strictly asking about going barefoot (which i have no plans to do) more the actual process of the body adapting to deal with harsher climates. For Cody, his ability to walk in snow and water without getting frostbite interests me much more...
