The Durston X Dome 1+ Pass around and review thread.

I don’t think I have ever seen any piece of gear, much less a tent, that has had so many reviews, both written and YouTube in such a short space of time as I have seen for the Durston X-Dome 1+. I have tried to avoid looking at many before I got to see the tent myself. Part of the brief was to...

    All My Gear Is Gone

Sorry. My bad humour. I can’t remember when I first met Tengu in person…many years ago now. She has always made eclectic contributions to the Moot bring and buys, and often offers unexpected items for trade. Always enthusiastic about finding new homes for things she has salvaged which could...

    Woodlore pro knife

except for those who struggle to sharpen things and/or don't have diamond sharpeners....which seems to be quite a lot of people! I like my one knife in CPM3V, but I have all the gear to sharpen it, and have had plenty of practice. Back when we were doing the Spyderco BushcraftUK, there was a...

To save others looking. Trust pilot 1 star reviews, lots, variations of the watch failing, not working as advertised, lack of service, lack of communication when problems reported…. Meanwhile, 5 star reviews, full of people saying the price is great, great choice…waiting for watch to...

    Knife sharpening service?

Is there a reason you don’t sharpen it yourself? I know some folk have poor eyes, or problems with their hands, but sometimes it’s just fear of doing it wrong. Costs £6.27 each way with Royal Mail age verification. £12.54 and the time of the recipient to sharpen and drop off at a post...

    Shelf stable protein

Dry sausage can last remarkably well without refrigeration. How long are we talking? Hours, days or weeks? I did road trips with summer sausage and chorizo, days at a stretch. Biltong is expensive, but you can make your own version with a dehydrator.

    Seeding mistletoe

Apple growing? Unlikely. No concentration in Kent. Unless you mean wild crab apples, but I have doubts about there being enough of those anywhere to be significant.

    New member introduction

Hello and welcome. Hope you enjoy it here Fishing you say? In the Lake District? :bluethinking: My impression was that the story that there are fish in the Lake District was all just a ploy by the Cumbria tourist board… ;) Chris

Nikwax TX.Direct - does it work?

I have a Parano Fuera wind smock. High cut under the arms to the point it was almost impossible to put on. Was able to get some Paramo shell fabric and insert a diamond gusset under the arms. Worked better.

    Mora full tang knifes

I am not disapproving of the "recycled" steel. If you have a strip of 14C28N and you cut out a bunch of blades, you are left with a lot of waste steel, which if melted down and re-cast/re-rolled, can still be processed to be 14C28N. Steel has been recycled for a long time...

    Mora full tang knifes

I handled a couple of the full tang Moras. I was monumentally unimpressed with the fit and finish for the price. I think they are some of the worst value knives it is possible to buy. Not that they won’t do the job, but when compared to other knives at that price point, they are lacking in...

Nikwax TX.Direct - does it work?

Regarding soaking in a bucket for re proofing. Left to its own devices, a Paramo jacket will fill a bucket and probably trap some air, causing some folds of fabric to sit up out of the Nikwax water while the rest soaks. I weight my garments down during the soak. Two litre bottles of water work...

Nikwax TX.Direct - does it work?

I have a bunch of Paramo gear and when I need to re-proof it, I do that by hand, only. I might wash in the machine, I might even use real detergent if I need to clean oily dirt, but I rinse very thoroughly, then use a bucket to re-proof. I get beading off on the standard weight outer fabric...

    What’s the point?

Not adversarial either. The middle and right have points. Only the left could be said not to have a point, and poking a hole in the hide of anything with that is gonna be harder than it would with a point. Nor could you do some wood carving cuts. It would spread peanut butter very well...
