    uk/usa

Ok So I stopped reading this thread halfway through when it became an issue of pulling it out and measuring. It's not an issue of standing up for your country... I'm sure GB and the Commonwealth will do fine without us defending it... or the US or Canada for that matter. I want to adress the...

Awesome replies guys, thanks. Yeah, I'm not really scheduling any time for Bushcraft - this is definitely a Tourist trip. Just wondering if there was anything that I HAD to see and needed to try and take some time off from the touristing... Keep up the recommendations of food please...

Hello all, first holiday in the last 5 years!!! The better half and I are taking 2 1/2 weeks, during which we plan to go visit London and Paris (first time in Europe). We're both History buffs so we'll do the whole tourist thing (she really wants to see the Tower, i'm more into the big...

    Permanent move to the bush

Cheers mate! I am just reading "one man's wilderness" by Sam keith on the journey of Richard Proenneke. the guy did just that... building himself a cabin in Alaska, went on to live 35 years there. Quite the different story than the scottish guy (i forget his name) in Alone in the Wild...

    Can anyone help me?

OK.... So agreed. The point of this thread is gone and the horse has passed away, cause of death was repeated flogging... Australian hardwoods are not harder than UK ones or North American ones. There is a difference in the growth pattern and size of trees, one of the factors creating the...

    Can anyone help me?

You don't need to be a bushcrafter to survive an incident in the woods.... You need to be ressourcefull and creative. However being a bushcrafter coupled with a calm mind will get you to survive. The Woodlore IMO is not a "survival" knife. I would definitely want a larger blade for that...

    Can anyone help me?

Right.... So.... Anyone want to talk about Woodlores?

    Can anyone help me?

It's done... I'm jumping in on this discussion! (after all... this is a Forum - not just a Mick Martyn conversation!) I've numbered the points in Martyn's post in order to make it realy easy to reply: 1 - not difficult to sharpen at all if you have a Diamond Hone. I've just near completed...

    Can anyone help me?

Oh come on mick.... Let's all tone down and look start over. Perhaps as you mentionned it is hard to convey by writing the meaning meant by an individual - and we should take posts at a grain of salt. It's a lesson I learned the hard way on the forums. p.s I'm sure that Toddy writing in...

    Can anyone help me?

See I like replies like these. I don't think Mick here was trying to ruffle anyone, or asked the question in order to be ruffled himself. The way I interpreted the post itself opened doors for discussion on issues like: - Is there too much significance of Hype in modern bushcraft? Ex: you...

    Dual Survival

So the funny thing is that I woiuld totally watch a show about people camping in tents and boiling water... it's all about being out there. All in all a very well constructed and well put post. I think you've nailed the issue, and the intention of the dual nature of the show. By the...

    Dual Survival

I haven't read his books... so I can't judge. you know... I'm a tolerant guy from a tolerant city, and I'm all over acknowledging different cultures and supporting them. I get the whole barefoot thing... i really do. I see every one of his arguments and respect them. But I'm a Paramedic...

    Dual Survival

Hmmm not to turn this into a "Les stroud vs dual survival" topic... but since the gauntlet has been thrown... I have to stick up for Les. Down to earth, tough, and also *** filming himself*** the times that I've seen him go without an element of survival (shelter, fire etc) it's because he...

    SOG Seal pup Kydex Sheath

Hallo! Excellent work! TBH coming from perhaps a different culture when it comes to blades over here, but I dont think Kydex gives a military look. (the camo in the background especially screams civilian!) The way I see it, when you're getting absolutely douched in water, be it rain sleet...

    All year round bushcraft

May I say it is with pleasure that I take the extended appendage and return the proffered greeting! Fab intro, you've found here a community of people that have the ability to read your post with glazed eyes and the fondness of memory and the yearning to be there again. Any chance you...

    Do you really think................

G'day Mick! I think you've said it right there... When you go out in the brush, you go into areas that are well known to you, (almost 30+ years, is that the same thing as 30 years? You'd think the + and the almost would even out...) and you go in with thourough knowlege of the terrain, routes...
