    Homemade Jerky

This is incredibly easy. Cupboard, lightbulb, computer fan. Biltong though, not jerky. Warren Smith was a member here for ages and recommended a spice mix. I’ll try and track it down as it was the best and easiest. EDIT: Crown National is the make. I think I used the Safari. It’s bloody...

For Sale Two Espro Travel coffee presses

Mentioned here many times as being possibly the best travel press you can get. https://bushcraftuk.com/community/search/1827891/?q=Espro&o=relevance I have 2 for sale. Both have been used, but not a lot, couple of very small scuffs to paint. Cleaned properly, and then fully flushed with...

    Any old iron?

Old powered hacksaw blades make decent blade stock. Found it. And a Brusletto Balder, orange Delica and a Boker slack (quite rusty from storage compared to the others). It’s a good chunk, long tang and wide handle makes for a pretty secure non locking system.

    What did you buy today?

That’s the one. Hard to get but I found a company that sells it called Sanza. Beats French onion soup powder hands down!

    Any old iron?

Yeah, I’ll find it later and post a pic. Very functional, not to mention very sharp. Made from an old file like the Michael Morris friction folders.

    Any old iron?

I’d definitely have a go with any old materials you can find, just to familiarise yourself with the process before going in with decent steel and handle materials.

    What did you buy today?

Is there a difference between the 25 Cream of Tomato and the 200 Tomato? Ended up buying 8 packets of Maggi onion soup (makes excellent dip) while browsing, so thought I’d ask before I pursued things any further. :rolleyes2:

    What did you buy today?

Oh, and descaler. Bizarrely abandoned kettles in a wood. Quite near a shooters hut, so maybe left out to go to be recycled, I’m not sure but one was damaged, the other looked used but ok. Took the decent one with me and descaled and cleaned it up. Solid as anything, it’s a Stellar 138 and...

    What did you buy today?

New suitcase butane portable stove for the van as the old one was beginning to get a bit finicky to push the lever down and I was getting gas escape. 28 cans of gas for £30 Water tank cleaning solution. A Walkers Strathspey Fruit Cake. Pricy, but nothing comes close to these things.

Folder with just a knife and saw?

I think because of the compromise. If those are the tools required then a folding saw and separate knife are a far more practical and usable combination. It’s ok on any campsite, your modification. There seems to be this confusion about getting knives to and fro, or using them publicly that is...

    Cheap good backpack for work?

Budget wise I’m not sure offhand, but more importantly we need to know size, does it need internal organisation like pen and pad slots, laptop slot, equipment slots? That’ll mean a clamshell type design that opens out. Or, stuff a main central pocket with everything and have the lab kit in a...

    Time

Cheers Stew, I was just about to do very straightforward googling myself, nice one. There are many other studies, I found figures of anything from 8.8% here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0022437523000099 To 15%, though I can’t find the link to that now.

    North 511 smart watches

Battery Casio has to be the most reliable over time. I have a Tough Solar that was cheap and great for hols, but can fail in winter under a sleeve all the time, though it soon automatically adjusts when it gets some light. Other than that a Steeldive auto is what I wear most. It too has...

    Time

There’s strong evidence to support a significant reduction in accidents. It’s also law in many parts of the USA and Canada where roads are long and straight. You can see headlights long before seeing the vehicle. I had a Volvo estate for years in the UK that had hardwired running lights, and...
