    cedar strip canoe construction..

Ive allways fancied an oldfashioned wood and canvas canoe. Buildmethod is to my knowledge similar. Try looking up a book called "The wood and canvas Canoe" by Jerry Stelmok and Rollin Thurlow. I find it not only very informative and explanatory, but also very wellwritten and present.

    You tube Bushcraft

Geeezz.... Get a proper axe, and learn how to use it is all i got out of it, i'm afraid.... Oh. Managed to fast forward to 1 minute before i turned it off. That said, noone will see a vid coming from me, thats for sure.

    rope and trees

As for the damage to the trees: Obviouly open wounds to the tree is considered a damage, what people tend to forget is that crushing the layer directly underneath the barch is equally as damagaing as making an open wound. Consider a tree's "infrastructure" like a bundle of straws (you know...

Some help with hanging my tarp...please don't judge my stupidity :)

Good point, but no it wouldn't. It would if you only were setting up with a central ridge tho. :) As said i use bungees. They won't put as much stress on the trees barch as a static taught line would. And when i pitch a tarp i cannot remeber when i have made a central ridge. Quite honestly i...

Some help with hanging my tarp...please don't judge my stupidity :)

Slap a bungee on the eyelets in each end. That'll keep it taught. On a secon note i cannot undestand why one would use a ridgeline/midline in the first place. I have never had one, and the worries i would have by using one is the problem you mention here, aswell as a problem with weaar and...

    Jackets (real fires!)

Save you rmoney.... Unless you take ou a lump of burning wood from the fire and start caressing your jackets with it, you won't have any problems with what you have allready. Ventile is highly overrated IMO, and definately overprized. Use what you want to use, being a scout since birth, i...

    Which GPS?

I agree. Geocachi ng is very much fun, and something you can get the kids involved in easily NOT knowing how to use map and compass is for stupid twats. Learn it. It gives you something no GPS in the world can give you: Reliability, accuracy, geodetic info, and lest not forget: a trustworthy...

In that case, don't worry about it. ;)

    rusty knife

Petroleum/parafine for the woodworms. Thats what we used to use to prevent or fight woodworms on roofings on farms and such. I'd consider getting the handle stabilized tho. (soaked under pressure in glue or plastic or the like)

    rusty knife

Just remembered: Yu could simply soak it in Coke. That'll normally do the trick aswell.

    trangia argument

Bought Trangias own multifuelburner and tested it thorougly lastweekedn with my scouts. Its a optimus nova btw. Very good bit of kit, and i can not see myself going out without it, or with the methsburner anymore, thats for sure.

    Comedy Woodlore knife test

Just goes to show that a woodlore is good for cutting paper, lines and tiretubes, but utterly worthless for cutting wood. :D

    Trangia Conversion

rangia has had their wn gas-burner and multifuel burner for years. It ain't a new thing. Ive been wanting to get the multifuelburner for many many years, but allways think about where to keep the fuel for it, and what if situations. So i tend to stick with the meth-burner instead.

    Tutorial for a Scandi-sheath

You wont need to source many tools. The plane is easily replaced by the knife you are making the sheath for in the first place. Just sharpen it enough, and learn to use it as such. To shape the leather, all you need is a smoothedged teespoon, and then just play around with the different parts of...

Who decides what size a pack is?

Sapper. What i mean is, that i can see a very reliable state of packing with the young scouts i have. It goes by the name: Cub-spring. Basically the fact is, that nomatter what size bag they have, they wont be able to pack all their gear into it, because they pack poorly. Sort of if they where...

Who decides what size a pack is?

Dont you think its more to do with poor packing, and less with measurements done wrong?

    Trangia Conversion

Very nice idea. Trangia does its own multifuel burner tho. But i like this idea, and well put together :)

Axes... to hammer wedges, or not?

as long as you keep your tools (eg. axe and wedge) in good conditon. E.g. file any mushrooming down and keeping the poll ship shape, you are good to go. I have no second thoughts when using a good quality axe, and a good quality wedge. As long as i know the tools are look after and kept in...

    Tutorial for a Scandi-sheath

Not at all :) Any entry that adds to this tutorial is, and should be, more than welcome ;) Like that the stitch is "tilted" to give room for a fullwidth beltloop/dangler. Something i haven't done before, might try it out on the next one just to see what i think about it.

    No More Rope Splicing!

    A) Yes you can. B) I agree, but its still clumsy as H. As are these, in comparison to a splicing. C) Why splice, or why these gadgets? Splicing because it works, because its good, becuse its seamless. These gadgets because.......They are easy? Dunno. I splice. Unless my life depends upon it.
