That used to be a load taller. But was chopped down during WW2 to stop our planes from hitting it at night, and to stop enemy aircraft using it as a landmark on bombing raids.

They’re great tools, if not essential tools for beginners wanting to progress . You can’t learn to gauge measurements unless you use a ruler for a long period. And that’s what the main stick with bands is for. So you learn the gaits of animals through logging them. Sure, as you progress you...

You can tell the age of the tracks and weight of the target this way far more accurately. If you cut your nails...

Also, cut your finger nails dead short if you don’t already. So there’s no overhang at all. If you have a bit of white showing at all over the fingertips of the first two fingers of both hands. File them down as much as possible.

    Dartmoor WS Knife

It’s essentially the same knife. Sans the serrated bit and bottle opener. I prefer the plain bladed Dartmoor. But prefer the handle on the original by far. Check out my JD&Clem epic days out thread to see more about that.

A folding mirror compass is a key tool for tracking. Using the whole thing. Much better than a mirror on its own. Be interesting to see if he uses it to its full potential.

It is incredible. The concrete paving outside has been uncovered recently to reveal loads of old massive grinding stones laid down to use as paving slabs. Sadly I didn’t photograph those. Stu, if you read this, can you go out and do that. Cheers.
