Cold steel special forces shovel mod question

It’d certainly be better than a screw. Seeing the back in better detail with that image, I’d say it makes the extra screw look even more dodgy and prone to splitting the wood far more likely than stabilising the area. I did suggest epoxy to him earlier. But I don’t think he liked the idea.

And now I’ve spent far too much time on this. So I’m going to the pub

Cold steel special forces shovel mod question

So from that lot, (and I’ve checked out Bladeforums on the issue). The weakest points are the screw holes causing splitting. Which would suggest putting more in isn’t going to help. So I checked that possibility. So in short. Not a good idea at all to address the problem the OP seems will...

Cold steel special forces shovel mod question

I just had to investigate further. I’m bored. What can a man do.

Cold steel special forces shovel mod question

Is there any documented weakness there? The screw it has is just to secure the handle in and stop it from working its way out during use. Like you said, it’s so tight fitting and stable anyway, so what difference will a screw in that lower position make?

    Ross Douglass/Scorpion knives

There’s always one. Or two in this case :buttkick:

Cold steel special forces shovel mod question

The wood is so thin there that it will probably just split it and make things worse. I doubt it would make any difference either. Why don’t you just seal the whole handle in there with epoxy. It’s unlikely you’ll ever need to rehandle if it’s cared for.

What did I tell you about using any of the smilies after the first two sections :nutkick:

    Ross Douglass/Scorpion knives

Yet again. Not the greatest marketing ploy. Sounds like it’s an article about him making a display case for it rather than the knife itself :lmao:

    Ross Douglass/Scorpion knives

@CLEM You’ve got these magazines haven’t you? There’s one where they’re giving away one of these knives. Maybe there’s a bigger write up in there. So we know there’s at least one person out there that has one.

    Ross Douglass/Scorpion knives

Looks more like a military knife than a bushcraft knife.

    Ross Douglass/Scorpion knives

It’s hardly great marketing is it. It’s almost like they don’t want to sell any. One picture that’s absolutely tiny and out of focus. In this day and age you really have to go out of your way to make a picture look so bad.

Rabbit entrails - who's the culprit?

Good call. I’m going with brown rat. And fox. As in previous posts and if it’s in woodlands then I’ll rule out domestic cat. Stoat maybe. Buzzard is another good call though. But I’d need to see the area in a larger context to see what grasses where flattened by the predator.

    Dartmoor WS Knife

The old CEO of Wilkinson Sword has just been selling off his collection. Some rare stuff with prototypes, production samples etc. I managed to get a couple of rare bits including the original. Mint in box with all the paperwork etc. It’s a lovely bit of childhood memorabilia.

    Dartmoor WS Knife

CLEM and I are visiting Stu Mitchell in a couple of weeks. This was the one of the projects I’ll be discussing with him. I’m in two minds whether to get rid of the choil and the blade will have a bit more belly and angle down like the original. Full tang, g10 scales, with Stu’s secare style...

    Dartmoor WS Knife

Funny you should ask this. I’ve just been playing with mine. Personally I’d make it as intended. After the edge has been re profiled with a convex grind, it’s a neat little knife and a great chopper. You could just buy the handle and permanently fix it on with resin. Have you got the guard...
