    Twists, are a military thing more than anything, used them all the time. Now it’s gaiters, even cheap ones will keep your trouser dry and secondly clean!

    For leather treatment, I was given a large tin of Barbour wax to coat a jacket many years ago, tried it once, along with a hot air gun (paint stripper) and gently warm the leather and rub the wax in, works a treat and buffs up nicely when cool.

    Two Norwegian army ponchos, £3.50 each from military mart, these are very small and sealed in a bag for emergency use, one each for me and the wife in the car, you never know when you might need one!

    From the look of the buckles, I’d say 80’s. I was lucky enough to trial them in the early 80’s for the military and at the end of the trial, burghaus gave them to us, result! I used it for the rest of my army career only recently gave it to a nephew for the cadets, still lots of life in it!

    I bought several 44 litre dry bags from Aldi a number of years ago, in a 35 litre rucksack and none have every leaked, not the lightest but a £6.99 who cares!

    Just my two pennies worth, waterproof rucksacks are great till they leak, I’ve found over the years, to get a good rucksack, one that’s comfortable and what size you want and get good dry bags to go inside and a rain cover, it’s just as good and far more versatile.
