    Blade care question

Definitely corrosive. It will eat into your blade, not add to the patina.

Avon so soft dry oil spray.

I have used it with mixed success. Sometimes it has worked great and other times it seemed to not work at all.

    Depressing walk :(

Condolences Toddy. Saw this happen on a fairly large scale in Indiana where I grew up. So many of the forests where I used to play and hunt in my youth were cleared for growing crops. Most of my relatives had farms with large woodlots and lots and lots of fence rows. All gone. It's one of the...

    Karesuando kniven axe

Have to admit, that little axe raises my heart rate. :) Very nice. Functional art.

What do you call porridge thats left to 'set' and eaten like a cake?

If you put some meat in it and you lived in Kentucky, it would be called Goetta.

    Wild camp what is it?

Around these parts, it usually means camping way off the beaten path, on state or federal land, where there are no regular campsites. It also usually means something different than your usual backpacking trip. Back in the 70s and 80s, I backpacked in quite a few designated wilderness areas but...

    Scary bears

I've run into grizzly bears in the backcountry of Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and the foothills of the Mission Mountains Wilderness and black bears in the backcountry of the Porcupine Mountains State Park and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in the Upper Peninsula of...

People Of The Deer - Farley Mowatt

Sounds good but most of the culture he describes no longer exists. And even if he embellished, the books are great reads as they are.

People Of The Deer - Farley Mowatt

Yes. It's a great book. Walking on the Land is another great book by him as is The Desperate People.

    Great looking spoon! Nicely sculpted.

Under £30 machete for British woodland

Not knocking Tramotina. Got a bunch of 'em but I have a bunch of Marbles too and they are good quality for the money. Not sure how much you would use them for bushcraft in the UK. I use them at my summer worksite for clearing trails and such. My worksite: Here's a review of a Marbles. Like...

Under £30 machete for British woodland

You might want to check out Marbles machetes. Pretty good quality and come with a nicely convexed and polished edge.

    hand carved spalted beach bowl

Excellent work! The bowl is gorgeous and the video is great as well. Thanks for sharing it. :thanks:

One stove, one pot one supermarket meals...

Anything but spam. You can get chicken, salmon, tuna, beef, vienna sausages, and oysters in a can, and some in a plastic bag to lighten your load. But spam. When the world ends as we know it, maybe... Most anything tastes better on the trail...except spam. :yuck:

Ray Mears - The Path of Grey Owl

Excellent little film. Very nicely done.

    Double Bit Axe

Re-helving an axe is pretty rewarding to do and I can definitely recommend it. Lots of information on the net on how to do it. Good double bit heads are harder to come by than single bits but if you are patient, you can find one. Some things to avoid: deep pitting, cracks, and most commonly...

    Full-tang Mora

I can see how the the initial costs of design, development and production could drive the price up, but in the long run, I don't see much difference in production methods and style than other similar moras. Poly handle, same steel, production line assembly. It doesn't look to me like the bevels...

    Full-tang Mora

List price and actual cost could be quite different. It usually is for knives here in the colonies. I know I would not spend $100 for it, although I do like the design.

    Full-tang Mora

    Looks very nice to me.

    Great summary Tony!
