If you can get hold of the Victorian maps, the mineral ones, they are a brilliantly detailed coverage of everything from ores to mineral springs....often worth looking at the older ones and seeing what's been slowly no longer noted on modern ones.

John is very sound :) and creative too. He's a good teacher, calm, patient, quietly encouraging. I can well believe his Moot course was good. I've covered boxes with old maps, the boxes I use for old photographs. Seems right somehow.

Honestly, I think that latter one is a horrible slap in the face to people like those on the West Bank, or the invaded Ukraine. It's their reality. It's the reality of a thousand wars. You know what wins ? family, society, community. Individuals rarely thrive in those scenarios.

You know? they used to make maps from oiled silk. Pilots hid them inside the collars of their jackets because they were so fine. E & E stuff, just in case, sort of thing. We can buy silk easily enough, it's used for really good sleeping bag liners. Point North fabrics might be the folks to ask...

I thought of Mors' scarf too :) and Leon and Neil at Greencraft. Ripstop nylon, give it a spray with fablon. Ah, wait now, the old original Pertex, that was good stuff. Might do well for this. Thin, breathable, very showerproof, light and still stops the wind, and best of all it's quiet.
