Why is Royal Mail so rubbish

I can’t remember what parcel company it was, but the last two Sofirn torches bought from their website have been left on my doorstep, which is basically a terraced house where the front door opens onto the street- with no garden, pedestrians walk inches away. Luckily, I came home within 10...

Sold Book - Survival skills of the North American Indians - Peter Goodchild

Gutted I missed this, luckily I managed to snag an older hardback version off eBay for a little bit more than this.

    Military Surplus Tents/Bashas/Bivvies

If it’s the one that’s camo on one side, and, I think, green or brown on the other, I have a set. The pouch it sometimes comes with (I bought mine separate) doubles as a hood that buttons onto the poncho. I’m not at home and haven’t used it for some years, but I seem to remember, it’s just a...

    Buying a new head-torch

Sofirn are great budget torches, they do a range of headlamps starting at less than £20. They don’t use proprietary batteries, just commonly available ones. I buy direct from China using their web site, they arrive in less than 2 weeks, they’re a lot less than the same torches on Amazon, plus...

    EG Ultimate Match -

Surely a “survival instructor” would be teaching their students how to make use of what might have- ferro rod, batteries, flint and steel, magnifying glass etc. Not something like this that they’re unlikely to have in a” survival scenario “. Also, seems a bit twee and convenient how everybody...

    Chest Infections.

I got single pneumonia when I was living in India a few decades ago. I was staying in the midst of the tiny streets off the great Jama Masjid, Old Delhi, in the winter, everybody coughing and hawking, crowded streets pack with people and rickshaw jams. I had no “chest infection” symptoms at all...

    Military Surplus Tents/Bashas/Bivvies

I have a similar affliction for military tents and mess kits. I have examples of pretty much every mess kit going, a great thing is, most of them were only about a tenner each, apart from the M40s and M44s. My favourite is probably the Russian VDV (paratrooper) one that also has an integral...

Sleeping bags for larger (fat!) person

I have the Snugpak Softie Elite 2 which already has an expander panel built in, it also has hooks so you can shorten it if needed, not that I need those, but I do use the expander panel, it’s so much more comfortable. Standard size sleeping bags are just too snug for me. I really like it, I’ve...

    Salt

I’ve always been a tad ambivalent about Anglesey salt. I knew a couple who lived just off the straits, they used to get seawater for their pet lobster. One of them worked for the environment agency, and, for some reason took in a sample in to work to get it tested, though they didn’t tell the...

    Imgur blocks UK access

The first thing they say in that reply to the petition is that it will curb illegal immigration. Even my Labour MP, who I wrote to, telling her I didn’t agree with digital id and I’d signed the petition, absolutely agreed that it wouldn't do a thing to curb it. Their reply also tries to claim it...

    Imgur blocks UK access

It’s not the porn sites I’m bothered about, it’s the fact that the government now has the power to block any site it doesn’t agree with, and it’s only going to get worse. We seem to be heading into an era where individuals are monitored whether they’ve done something illegal or not.

    Imgur blocks UK access

Exactly! I remember all the things we used to say about East Germany and Russia back in the 70s, the Stasi, state control, spying on its own citizens etc. but, like you say, here we are! It’s just so sad. :(

    For Sale Old traps

Do they actually work? When I say work, I’m obviously not going to use it, just wondering if it can be displayed with the jaws open (on the wall).

    Dish washing in UK.

I do like to try to rinse the bulk of soap off my dishes usually by pouring a jug of water over as they sit on the drainer. I got more fussy after reading that modern detergents can lead to perforation of your gut lining (especially very young or the elderly)- I was having stomach problems at...

    Char Cloth - 1st Attempt

This is the first one I got, back in 1988. For years,I had assumed it was a coin purse. Was so happy when I found its true purpose! :)
