    WANTED Vietnam Rucksack Frame

Have you tried eBay? There seem to be a few things of that sort but from what little I saw not especially cheap.

Government consultation on banning large knives and machetes

Apparently zombie knives and the like sometimes have holes in them. So if there are two or more holes in a blade that's more than eight inches long which has sharp bits then it's illegal. I'm sitting next to the wife's magnetic kitchen knife holder, and one of her cook's knives looks to me...

Government consultation on banning large knives and machetes

I'm convinced that there isn't a functioning brain cell anywhere in most governments. I was just reimbursed £43 for a Herbertz garden machete. It was a superb tool. I surrendered it because it had seven holes in the blade. If it had been O1 I might have tried welding them up but it was 420...

Why have Fallkniven changed the DC4?

Sorry, this reply somehow got delayed. I think I forgot to hit 'post reply'... Not too bad considering my advanced years, thank you, and still very busy. Hope you and yours are well too. For a few years I only ever stropped it but the very fine stropped edge never seemed to last long...

    Modern, robust, candle lantern

I have no idea if this is real, but it was the second hit on my search for bushlite using startpage.com. http://www.bushlites.co.za/product/bushlite-candle-lantern-brass/ The first hit was https://bushcraftuk.com/community/threads/bushlite-candle-lantern-shout-out.163025/ The third hit was...

Why have Fallkniven changed the DC4?

Hey, long time no see! I feel the urge to try one of these stones, but I find a ceramic fuse works well enough and I still like my old DC4. Weeeellll.... I use an old Mark Hill blade quite a lot. It's RWL34 and it's a pig to sharpen without diamond. I'm not the kind to spend all day...

    Custom made hiking boots?

Injuries have, er, left my right foot an inch wider than my left. Many years ago I bought what you could loosely describe as a pair of Altberg waterproof walking boots. I went to Rippon in Yorkshire, where they're made, and where they measured my feet. They were the best boots I'd ever had...

    Normark Super Swede?

I'm not sure it's the law that dictates ebay's stance. They probably just don't want the aggro. You can buy knives mail order in the UK, for example here. My Normark Super Swede (ca.1995) has hard rubber scales which look a lot like the photo in post #13 but there are quite a few differences...

    Water purification woes...

Back at the beginning of this century a friend of mine bought a house in the Scottish hills about 20 miles from Dundee. On one visit the water supply slowed to just a trickle from the tap. It wasn't until then that I knew that whenever I went there what I'd been drinking was from a private...

    Normark Super Swede?

Mine's here on my desk, always within reach. Still my favourite folder. That sheath looks pretty good, did it come with the knife? A friend bought a sheath for me as a little thank you after I towed something somewhere for him, but it isn't a perfect fit. I've never found one that fit...

Right on the money. In fact the last time somebody tried to kill me he used a claw hammer. It didn't turn out too well for him, though. :)

A Hard Decision-Sell up or rent?

About thirty years ago I had a property in Plymouth which I'd bought for my wife to be, to use while she was working on a contract there. During the life of her contract I did quite a bit of work on the place. When she took her next contract it was in Bath, and I had the choice of selling the...

    Lightweight cook setup

I love my Kelly/Ghillie kettles but I only use them to boil water. I've seen the gadgets which claim to let you cook over the flame but it's never seemed to me to make any sense. You're right they take up a lot of room. I personally question the utility of anything smaller than about a 1.5...

Snugpak Elite 3 not very warm

Many items of insulating gear, if they have zip fasteners, have baffles or baggy insulation around the zips to prevent them from leaking heat there. Closing a zip which is protected in this way is yet another bushcraft skill - art form as I sometimes call them - which can be learned...

Whats the best grind for your ideal bushcraft knife?

Well this thread was started in 2006, and in the 18 years since then I've gained some more experience. I think I can now safely say that the answer to the original question is "It depends...".
