    Banned dogs - thoughts

Over recent years I've had a few altercations with dogs and their owners, always due to the dogs being off lead and thinking my children were something to chase - or in some cases when I've been out jogging and the dogs thought I was something to chase, despite the fact that when running I...

Habitat with most odds off obtaining all your wild food needs in the U.K.

I've eaten plenty of shop bought snails. Snails grilled with garlic butter are delicious. At least, the garlic butter is delicious. I've contemplated snails in my garden with a greedy eye but I've never taken the ultimate step. I'd struggle to chew on a slug though. Maybe if I stuffed one into...

Habitat with most odds off obtaining all your wild food needs in the U.K.

In these sorts of discussions, people rarely mention insects, ants, ant eggs, earth worms, snails and slugs and so on, from a survival perspective. Admitidly, from the point of view of this thread, they are not really location specific. I'm one and a half series into Alone, and they barely...

    Orange is the New Black

I have an ocular blind spot in the exact shape of my cigarette lighter. I light my stove and then it instantly vanishes. Every damn time.

    Goretex repair

Much as I want to use the repair service, I'm off for a jaunt in the wilds of Wales soon, so I need my jacket. So I'm going to try some stormsure glue I got off amazon.

    Goretex repair

Wow that's impressive! I had no idea of that service.

    Goretex repair

I have a Berghaus paclite jacket which has done me brilliantly for over ten years. But now the tape has started to pull away from the seams. I have some seam grip + sil for tent sealing. I also have some glue that came with an inflatable mattress for sticking on patches. Will either of those do...

    A failed attempt.....

Blimey. I would have found that very stressful. Glad you got back safe.

    Amadou

I haven't tried this for a while. But I found that I got better results from small to medium sized horses hooves. I also stopped try to get the trama layer in one piece, and instead sliced the fungus as though slicing a loaf of bread. This resulted in smaller pieces of trama layer, but still...

Help with a yellow flowering plant

Interesting about the honey, I guess the bees must accumulate it via the nectar, depending on what plants they are tending to. It won't be on my edibles list either.

Help with a yellow flowering plant

Geoff Dann's book lists both species as edible. The site I linked to earlier describes Solidago canadensis as containing pyrrolizidine alkaloids. I'd be interested to find out more.

Help with a yellow flowering plant

My goodness it's way too hot to be out chasing plants, but I suffered for the cause. Based on flower size and leaf shape, I suspect it is canadensis. https://postimg.cc/rRNCYM8w https://postimg.cc/sMhPtYfL https://postimg.cc/nC7Cx07q https://postimg.cc/zLfzyjLt

Help with a yellow flowering plant

So it is either Solidago viagaurea https://wildflowerfinder.org.uk/Flowers/G/Goldenrod/Goldenrod.htm Or https://wildflowerfinder.org.uk/Flowers/G/Goldenrod(Canadian)/Goldenrod(Canadian).htm I.e. Solidago canadensis Only one thing for it, I need to go for another run! In any case I've been...

Help with a yellow flowering plant

I reckon that's it. Nice one, thank you! I'll get back to it hopefully, and study it in more detail.

Help with a yellow flowering plant

No photo unfortunately as I was out running. But I came across a tall (4 foot?) plant which I had figured was a willowherb, and chalky moderately dry ground. Similar structure and appearance to rosebay willowherb and lanceolate leaves. But today it has flowered; a big spray of yellow flowers...

    Climate Change & Survival.

This is a serious and general issue that goes way beyond the subject of turbines and climate change. I.e, where do we generally get our information from and how do we process it? We should all absolutely look at the science and detail of things in as much depth as possible, but we also have to...

    Climate Change & Survival.

Wind turbines are neither clean nor cheap. But they are cleaner and cheaper than oil. Same applies to electric cars. Over their lifespan, they're cleaner and cheaper than petrol powered cars, contrary to what some skeptics claim. Green energy certainly isn't perfect but it's a step in the right...

    Climate Change & Survival.

Has anyone watched Chris Packham's the Earth series? I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on it. I really enjoyed it, although I found the episodes a little disjointed. But it puts into perspective just how little time humans have occupied earth. I'm not sure that the argument that we've...
