    Cumbria Spoon group anyone?

Narional trust hub? That sounds familiar. Stone boathouse with a cafe? I worked on a sort of boathouse with cafe/clubhouse thing above it a few years ago. I reckon the one I was working on was just a bit towards Bowness, from it. Less than a hundred yards though. Concrete pad with timber framed...

    Cumbria Spoon group anyone?

There's a Men In Sheds group at Caldbeck, near (ish) Carlisle and a mate of mine runs Brampton Woodworking club in...err... Brampton. That's just two I know of, not specifically spoon carving but open to people making their own stuff.

    Let's see your dog

Ahh, one of his had a fair bit of Carpathian wolf in the mix. That was why I asked as it looked very similar.

    Let's see your dog

What breed is that beauty? Looks a bit wolf of mixed in to me. One of my brothers had two over the years that he said had a fair amount of wolf in the mix.

    New Year's Resolutions

On the tea front my wife has a posh teapot strainer thing, its a faff to use. I just use a cafetiere and bung tea in it when I want tea and coffee in it when I want coffee. Its stainless so when I drop it on the floor I just pick it up instead of chucking bits off glass in the bin everytime I...

    Micarta or walnut?

My heart says Walnut but my head says micarta. Toss a coin, if it lands wrong you'll want to go for a 'best out of three' instead and that usually tells you what you really wanted in the first place.

    Let's see your dog

I've posted this on another forum and couldn't be trashed writing it all out again... Dog frequently does this, stops a bit infront of me, stands like he landed to earth in a superhero movie (legs perfectly positioned, head proud blah blah blah) and stands alert while he looks and listens for...

    Spiritual connection to nature

Reminds me of the Richard Feynman quote. "I have a friend who’s an artist and has sometimes taken a view which I don’t agree with very well. He’ll hold up a flower and say "look how beautiful it is," and I’ll agree. Then he says "I as an artist can see how beautiful this is but you as a...

How would you fix the Homeless crisis.?

It's interesting to note the trajectory of this graph for the UKs homeless population, in 2010 it was lessening but then took an upward turnfrom late 2010 to at least 2023. I can't possibly imagine what significant change happened in 2010, ahem. Click Here. Then this one shows the homelessness...

How would you fix the Homeless crisis.?

Ahh, well it's possible you just come into contact with some nicer people eh? The argument I've seen on a number of occasions is that "They're getting summat for nowt while I slave away going to work". It's not one I agree with and personally find it a little distasteful. I'm a firm believer in...

How would you fix the Homeless crisis.?

Which part was the generalisation? The amount of the British public who can't stand someone else 'getting summat for nowt" which I've seen people complain about pretty regularly or that helping people get on their feet might actually reduce overall cost to the nation? I'm still all for giving...

How would you fix the Homeless crisis.?

I've seen that before and it makes some very good points about the most important thing that sends people into a downward spiral is housing insecurity. Having a base you can rely on allows people to come out of addiction, get a job and have some stability. I'm not sure the slightly spitefull...

    What colour emergency strobe light?

Not based on scientific study but I reckon blue is by far the most distinctive.

The back side of a knife.

I use the back of the blade from one of my pen knives to scrawp the bark off bits of stick sometimes. I don't even need to open the blade to do this, just use it closed. A decent square edge makes that possible. More or less an impromptu cabinet scraper.

    Bushcraft films

I still have the book kicking about somewhere. Read it as a kid, loved it. Even read it as an adult and still like it.

    My "stealth" lights.

Exactly, none of thats rocket science and I believe some people even have eyes that can move while their head remains stationary. They can look in a slightly different direction than their head is pointing. But give one owl a headligt and just see what happens, mark my words.

    Are you a GEARDO?

You know the term Minimalist? Often someone who works in an office and doesn't need to carry much more than a laptop about. The work I do requires quite a lot of tools on a day to day basis, plus I have a couple of motorbikes so theres1tools for them also. Anyway, I prefer the term Maximalist...

    My "stealth" lights.

I bought a Black Diamond headtorch a few years ago (think its a Storm 350 that runs on AAA batteries, I use rechargeables) and as it has two control buttons I'm not constantly cycling through the settings. Right button On Off a d left button goes through settings. It remembers what setting I was...
