I think of it like Ugg, the caveboy. When he has a technical question he goes to the Clevermen who give answers. The answers are not always useful to him, but hey, answers.

The 'I've found a bargain' thread

In the Mountain Warehouse shop in the Designer outlet centre in Swindon (Dont know where this offer is nationwide) they are selling mens fleece zip neck jumpers, £10. Grey, fawn, black, shocking pink, I think there may be green. If they are anything like the similar one I have, a good find.

    WANTED; Veg tan leather scraps

Thirty eight! With very little wastage. If we are losing a dozen a week (a very stingy estimate, I will be frank) then that is three weeks worth. OK, some are a bit oddly shaped, but the dratted things are expendable. (I get cranky over this but try not to resent it, its in a good cause)

    Is this fatwood?

Oh yes, it has a very strong smell; examine any old, very rotted pine stumps you may find.

Anyone a fan of tinned fish?

That would work well, I might enjoy it, though not a fish person. Oddly, Blackie, another non fish eater, loves tinned sardines

    WHAT DID YOU MAKE TODAY?

Cutting up Veg tan leather scraps into ticket blanks for work. (Because when I get there I know it will be "Rebec-CA, can you make us 300 tickets? We ran short last month...")

It was Scouting that got me into Bush Crafting, can any other claim the same?

Didnt he mention that his teaching was good for girls too in his book? I have a copy somewhere but not to hand.

Forest schools/ bushcraft groups for children

Woodygirl is in Dulverton; she might know something. And I cannot help you; no kids and not in that area. Scouting might be an answer but not every group does much outdoor stuff. I rather suspect what you are already doing might be best.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

As I say "Even the Encyclopaedia Britannica is wrong sometimes"

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

its all scaremongering and a crying shame our government is getting involved.
