Thank you mate, your last point is something that I have always said was either poorly explained in school, or not at all, the different opportunities and jobs that are available. I still don't know now.

Just an update.. I'm half way through my second week of the Business and Law access module, actually I've today completed the second week (unit 2). I am glad that I took the access module, it's been a nice ease back in to education. So far it's been quite heavily targeted towards 'learning...

Does anyone make a good quality baseplate compass anymore?

The only thing I don't like about my Silva Expedition 4 is that is has no seal between the base plate and bezel and I find it slowly picks up debris which affects it's smoothness and needs occasional disassembling and cleaning. I have an older Silva mirror compass which is sealed.

    Dutch bivy

Because the UK has said it's going to fine Imgur over age checks. Has the UK gone totally nuts? Anyway, I've been using my Dutch hooped bivi for dogsbodying. It's been great for both keeping the rain off, and keeping the sun off. I was out for a few hours Sunday in harsh sunlight and was very...

Fan Gyhirych and Fan Nedd, and an ancient standing stone.

Sorry Dale for the late response, Yes it is, it's age is estimated to be over 4,000 years old. There was some Latin and Ogam inscription which has weathered off. It's a real humbling experience standing next to such a prominent feature of that age, wondering about all the people who have stood...

    What did you buy today?

This is mainly in the USA, which have waaaaaay stricter criteria than other countries, or certainly the UK, in terms of the amount of leakage. A Baofeng is well within the range allowed in the UK.

    What did you buy today?

Yes, make sure you get a license. One press of the PTT button without a license and you will have government official at your door withing ten minutes! On a serious note, I enjoy listening to my Baofengs, I have a UV-5R and a UV5RH with 'air band', which I can use to listen to passing...

Thank you, it really is, and I got to hear the call of a red stag.

Fan Gyhirych and Fan Nedd, and an ancient standing stone.

Walked Fan Gyhirych and Fan Nedd yesterday evening. Weather was mostly dry with the odd shower with the summits covered in fog which came in heavier at nightfall. A cold North Westerly wind meant I could try out some new gloves and army goretex overmittens. I practiced a lot of night navigation...

The other thing I've considered is, If I have to work at 70, am I going to be comfortable doing a trades job such as plumbing? Is my body going to be up to it? I think I would be happier in an office job at 70.

Like most things, I think trades move in cycles. I remember looking into plumbing when I left school, I didn't go down that route, but it was a good trade back then, but not like it is today. What probably happens is a trade earns just an ok living so less demand to be in that trade which...

    What did you buy today?

I tried the bum bag out today, I actually really liked it, I don't think it's as conspicuous as I was concerned about, and it was comfortable, I even forgot I had it on getting back in to the car after the walk. Weather was a bit wet.
