    Walking sticks and staffs

I cheat on this. Best thing is using well seasoned wood because shrinkage will cause the leather to loosen. Look at Amazon for leather binding normally used for jewellery craft. Come in all colours. My preference is 3mm. What I do is use an awl at the top and bottom of the handle and then super...

    Walking sticks and staffs

Good question Falstaff. I'm 5ft 11. My own sticks range about the 5ft 5 mark but that's why I always carve a secondary handle below. Gives balance and allows a better method to use in under growth.

    Walking sticks and staffs

I'm lucky we have an abundance of hazel in my area. Anywhere you look is a potential walking stick. Been some fantastic pics of various people's sticks

Never done that before. I tend to use a blow torch to straighten the wood.

What is the point of taking an axe bushcrafting?

I sincerely hope this does not become a contentious thread. As Ive said I value all posts the community has posted. I honestly thought it was a simple post that I didn't truly explain in my original OP. My apologies for that.

What is the point of taking an axe bushcrafting?

True Gebby but I also process wood for my own house. Not so much now as my previous home used to have a log burner so I used to have a ton of wood delivered every year. Now ts just for outside log burning. Plus if I need an axe to take bushcrafting that is what I would use but as stated I've...

What is the point of taking an axe bushcrafting?

I think my OP got lost in translation which was my fault sorry as I didnt explain it properly. I was referring to lone bushcrafting on an area near me which some of you may have guessed where it is. I dont own the land, not looking to set up anything permanent, I'm processing wood for a...

What is the point of taking an axe bushcrafting?

Don't get me wrong but I do have an axe which I've taken out a few times but have never used. From great comments here I suppose it's the locality you live in or travel to that necessities an axe

What is the point of taking an axe bushcrafting?

Mods. Can you please set up a poll to see who carries an axe as as an everyday bushcraft outing lasting 1 to 3 days that doesn't involve travelling to the site by car and able to go back and for for supplies

What is the point of taking an axe bushcrafting?

Why is that Hermon? I'm carrying a 60l Dutch army pack totally loaded out and desperately trying to dispatch some weight. I use Deadwood for fire. It's coming to summer so I don't need a raging log fire. Woodland in my area does not constitute the need for an axe.
