    N.E.S Meet 5 ( Back to Haddo)

Thanks to Chief and Vice-chief BCUK-NES for arranging it all. (I would have said Chief and Squaw, but I want to be invited back)

    N.E.S Meet 5 ( Back to Haddo)

Unlikely to make it this time (Scouts are planning a jolly). Look forward to the photos.

OT: Offshore Work – Looking for Help

Back on the beach with a new handle for the rope swing. No baskets or gilets, but an improved confidence in splicing. Trivia moment: instead of a rock or old nut for a surface monkey's fist, subsea ones are often made with a buoyant core. They serve as usefully flexible handles for WROVs...

OT: Offshore Work – Looking for Help

I'm bumping this only because it came up in a search for "offshore". With fingers ragged from making polprop monkey's fists, I'm asking what other BC distractions are there to pass transit and WOW time offshore? I don't have any whalebone for scrimshaw. (they frown on lighting fires, it turns out)

    N.E.Scotland meet ( Glen Tanar)

No to cider. We did just make nettle soup thickened with pignut, to go with beech/lime/hawthorn/ramson/dandelion salad; but it didn't last long enough to ferment. Prompted by your question, I've gone and found where Mrs Chance had been hiding last year's, thankfully unexploded, seabuckthornade...

    N.E.Scotland meet ( Glen Tanar)

Is this the point at which I say "a blunt knife is safer than a sharp one"... and sit back and count the posts until someone compares me to [insert dictator of choice]? And nickliv, it's irresponsible to encourage the mixture of cider and sharps; with or without Kevlar or Dyneema.

Good shot! Apart being a little out-of-focus.

    N.E.Scotland meet ( Glen Tanar)

I wonder if anyone else following the meet has had the same woodworm problems as KiltedPict noticed in his wooden crate? I've since had a report from another attendee of a hole in a piece of 4x2 which, measured using a nail, was 18mm deep. Bugling, for some reason, appears to encourage...

NE Scotland Meet Glen Tanar - The Results (Pic Heavy)

This is the parachute before we've generated a lot of hot air.

    N.E.Scotland meet ( Glen Tanar)

It's perfectly acceptable to make an improvised bugle to herald your Dutch pheasant (that's not slang; at least, I hope it isn't). And it's amazing how well a duck tape mute works.

Another use for a parachute: as an indicator of temperature/pressure. In this illustration, showing a low relative pressure within the parachute; as distinct from its evening billow. Or the frost's weighing it down.

Sixthing the thanks to Chief BCUK-NES (there'll be an anagram in there).

    N.E.Scotland meet ( Glen Tanar)

If any of the Thursdays have the facility to post remotely, I'd be grateful if you could report on whether it'll be better to bring a tent... or a kayak. (yes, I know, "hammock" is the answer - but only if you bring a ladder long enough to reach above the flash floodline)

    Netting Needle.

As a comparison from the shoddier end of the Craft scale, an example of how to cheat if you're in a rush: I needed to fix the chicken run, and my carved one doesn't fit through chicken wire. Yours now looks even nicer.

    Stuffing (Taxidermy)

I've been asked if I know of anyone in the Northeast that can teach taxidermy. A friend of a friend is interested in stuffing/mounting a pheasant (stop sniggering, it's undignified).
