Found another rusty saw blade from the garden shed tool box this morning. Cut it into half, grinded on the electric grinder for 5 minutes, and sharpened on the DC4. Mounted on the £29 multi tool (Made in China), and it also works great for wood carving.

2x slabs of the cut hazel branch glued together with the blade in between. It will be further roughed out, and sanded.

Used garden saw blades seem well heat treated and tempered from the factory. Just cut them with the angle grinder, sharpen and put some handles on them. They keep carving sharp edges well and work well. Cost? £0.00

In the past I have been under the impression that stainless steel or alloy steel would be stronger and tougher than carbon steel, but was surprised to witness that is not the case. In the book, Stainless steel should be less prone to rust, but it doesn't seem to be the case either.

The metal seems to be some sort of stainless steel or alloy steel, which don't get rusty easy. The fractured area doesn't seem to have rust.
