    Kukri, Newton billhook alternative

Much the same to say as Broch, if you're serious about clearing brambles and things of similar thickness then a long handled hedgecutter is the way to go. For thicker stuff I'd use a small, top handled chainsaw. Can't comment on kukris as I've never used one but I've found parang style blades...

    Sticky msr hubba....anyone fixed theirs?

It's stinky when you apply it and needs airing outside but doesn't stay that way, so don't worry about being stuck with a stinky tent.

    Is it worth it?

Because if someone reads this thread and concludes they don't need a £150 Gransfors, clutters off to the snow clad middle of nowhere and dies because their £20 Verve axe breaks, chosen on the back of my recommendation, then I'd be unlikely to receive any feedback. Break it at home so that you...

    Is it worth it?

Yeah I was given a couple of old Elwells and can't fault them. One has a beautifully slender haft that is a pleasure to use. At the other end I have a couple of B&Q Verve axes which were BLUNT new. Literally a flat edge. They are a bit soft but to be honest they split wood and sharpen up...

    Modern car technology

A good example of safety that works is ABS. It's there when you need it and doesn't interfere with anything the rest of the time. The problem with the stuff we are moaning about is it affects normal use, forces you to change the way you drive or stops you from driving altogether! Parking sensors...

    Modern car technology

All bar the collision detection can be turned off but it's nested in the menus and resets once the ignition is off. The other issues are the adblue and DPF which are a common cause of problems and a lot of people get them removed. That doesn't seem to have legal ramifications for now but I can...

    Modern car technology

I bought a new truck last December and it has all the gadgets mentioned in the OP. The lane keeping is borderline dangerous, the speed limit detector is okay, the collision detection is flawed but generally okay. You're constantly bombarded with beeps and warning lights. It's a lot of...

'Razor sharp out of the box'

Moras are usually pleasantly sharp, albeit with prominent grind lines. I do find it irksome when a much pricier knife comes blunt while a ~£10 Mora can be supplied ready to roll.

    Why a Swiss Army Knife.

Well if you're stretching the remit to comparing other brands then I should mention Ruike make some lovely multitools in a similar style to Victorinox. I'm not a fan of corkscrews but have a simple model with just a blade and tweezers which is one of my all time favourites.

    Why a Swiss Army Knife.

I have the Hiker and the Farmer. I prefer the in-line tools to the 90 degree ones, for example the awl on the Farmer is very useful for drilling and scraping whereas I've barely used the awl on the Hiker. I find a SAK generally superior to a Leatherman style multitool because it's a handle with...

    Any gamers on here?

It really is. I'd guess I'm 80-90% through and it's a joy. The weapon creation system means that breaking a weapon feels like an opportunity rather than a setback. There are lots of little touches all over the place that put a smile on your face.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Maybe create a hierarchy of preps. PREPPING - Gas masks, hazmat suits, nuclear bunker, years' worth of food. Stuff that you probably won't need. Prepping - Generator, torches, candles, weeks of food, emergency cash/savings. Stuff that you might use once a year to once a decade due to...
