    COMPETITION...What's in Santa's Large Sack?

LMAO ...:) Although I am proficient in the use of Photoshop it is far more simple. Just pitch your tent/hammock/tarp, go to sleep and when you wake up and it's -5c you can then take some frost effect photos! Cheers Sack

    Low temperature digital camera?

Hi Apart from waterproof housings for regular cams (also used for anti dust/sand purposes) I am not aware of any specific models for deep cold shooting. Any of the top end Canons & Nikons will have silicone seals in all the right places to stop water/dust ingress and I used to regularly use my...

    COMPETITION...What's in Santa's Large Sack?

OK Ladies and Gents I have a little competition for you. Below are 20 photos of various bits of kit (most cunningly disguised by a layer of frost camo!) and a few other random things. I would like you to tell me what each one of the items is. The more detail you give, the better your chance of...

    Soap & Sugar

Thanks for the kind words folks, I hope it has stirred up some fond memories for some of you...and perhaps, like me, refreshed you with a technique that you can use again. As for the reasoning behind how the poultice works, I'm afraid I would only be guessing. I haven't done any research but...

    Soap & Sugar

I'm 50 next year and I tell my kids that my generation was really the last of the, what I call, Enid Blyton generation...Famous Five, Secret Seven; my bike was everything from a motorbike to a horse, to a tank to a plane, the whole village was my garden, go karts were pushed up hills (and didnt...

    Soap & Sugar

The last time my mother used this on me was after I speared the soft flesh below my ankle bone with hawthorn, went in so deep you couldn't see it other than a dark shadow under the skin. As you say Tadpole it was green 'Fairy' soap that was used mixed up with the sugar. I'd like to say 'aahhh...

    Soap & Sugar

I never thought about it before (stupid...considering ) but my grandmother and mother both advocated the use of a soap and sugar poultice in order to extract deep seated splinters and thorns (has also been used to help alleviate septicemia due to infection of splinter (but I won't say...

    Blackening/bluing a knife blade

Hi Ian, just one last question; bearing in mind that the knife is carbon steel with badly damaged teflon style coating which will have to be removed first, can you suggest the best method for obtaining an overall even matt finish to the bare steel prior to blue/blacking?

    Blackening/bluing a knife blade

Marvellous, thanks...I'm obviously not as sharp eyed as I once was. Cat/Pigeons (cat amongst the pigeons)...I was definitely going down the gun blue route...until you threw the metalblak into the arena :) I really like the sound of that stuff so I may have to get gun blue and metalblak and...

Snugpak fail in the New Forest and knife talk

And bearing in mind the target market for most of Snugpaks bags, that would make a lot of sense.
