    Bulletproof sleeping pad

I use a Exped down mat. Had it for about 5 years and used it quite a bit. Very warm, packs to nothing and very light. Not cheep but worth it. I sleep on my side and sometimes wake with a pain in my hip. But it’s camping not a premiere inn, so there have to be some sacrifices.

    Insulated jacket recommendations?

I was lucky to win a jacket from GoOutdoors a year or so back. It’s my go to jacket now for when it’s a bit cold. I do have a big down jacket for when it’s really cold though. I wouldn’t have paid for this jacket as it’s an “own brand” however now that I have got it, I would have paid for it...

    Alpkit drybags WARNING.

I got a selection from Sports Direct, Karrimor ones about 5 years ago, and they are still going strong, still waterproof and they haven’t have the easiest of lives. I’ve also got a thicker one from Aldi about 10 years ago, and I have no idea what’s it made from, but it’s bomb proof. Not the...

    Multi tool, which one?

Just to follow on from my previous post, a locking bladed knife is not legal to carry without good reason, and it would be upto you to prove your good reason, not the CPS to prove it’s not. Lots of people will say that it’s there just in case, this isn’t a good reason. If you’re a carpet fitter...

    Drone Photography/Videography

I have a small drone, very much a toy in comparison with some of the newer ones. I would love to get myself a really top class one, however they tend to be rather expensive. The closet thing I got to a good photo was my WiFi camera on a long stick.

    Adventure Food

Having just come back form a scout camp, it has got me thinking about “adventure food” a number of the scouts had taken the pre packed meals from that big outdoor shop “go something”. I even took one, however for the price I wasn’t all that impressed. What do people take as an alternative to...

    Tilley windfall

Wide games... We get them into the program for my scouts at least once or twice a term, well except this last one as they have been working towards their survival badge, so we had other things to work towards.

    Dental first aid kit

I did Kilimanjaro a few years back, and spent a long time in the dentist chair having work done before hand. Best advice is prevention.

    gloves?

I just use a pair (well just the left) of cheap gauntlets. About £5 a pair, they are good for the heat, but you can’t do anything with them on other than weld.

    gloves?

A friend has some fireman gloves. Very handy for the fire. Just done a quick search on Amazon, and a good few come up there.

    DIY kit.

A couple of years ago I decided I wanted to make a few bits of my own kit, so I got a hand cranked Singer of evil-bay and make a few bits including a case for my arrows and an under blanket. However as time passed and seeing some of the things John Fenna has made I thought I’d give it a go, so a...

    How small can you go?

I think the reason for bad knees is the lack of comfort.

    How small can you go?

I will be opening with this one at scouts next week.

    How small can you go?

This is were the 10% rule comes in, we can lose at least 1.5 scouts before it’s an issue...

    Multi tool, which one?

I’m not a fan of multi tools, I have one and only use the pliers for taking a pot off the stove. Also remember if your looking for an EDC tool with a knife, it can’t have a locking blade.

    How small can you go?

There some really good points here, so thank you all. I’m doing an over night with the scouts in November, they will be building their own shelters and sleeping in them, so instead of my hammock, I may just go with very minimal and see how I get on. It’s only one night, what’s the worst that...
