    A Bit of SAK Modding

I've often wondered whether there are any law enforcers who would measure the combined lengths of all the cutting edges on a SAK saw. If there are, then a lot of SAK carriers could fall foul of the law.

    A Bit of SAK Modding

I've put new scales on a Huntsman before, but this is the first that I have completely taken apart.

    Your favourite EDC item?

Favourite is my companion of 34 years, a Victorinox Huntsman that I bought with some birthday money (16th birthday) IMG_20220415_190133~2 by Alan Muddypaws, on Flickr I couldn't afford the fully featured version, but got the economy model instead (no tweezers, toothpick and inlaid shield)...

    A Bit of SAK Modding

I recently got a Victorinox Forester, because I quite like the handle shape of the 111mm SAKs, and I thought the larger blade and saw would make for a useful "mucking around with bits of wood" knife. However, I had real problems with getting the awl out (thumbnail breaking stiff), so I...

    EDC lighters or firemakers

If I'm out for a walk I will generally have a cheap piezo lighter in my bag. My brew kit will have a ferro rod, which I find easy to drop a shower of sparks into a Trangia meths burner. Most other times I will have a Tortoise Gear Firefly mini ferro rod in my SAK, so I suppose that is my true...

Why I hate (most) modern torches

Some good points made in the video. Olight are perhaps trying to be a bit like Apple in guarding their own proprietary ecosystem. That said, I have quite a few Olights now, but I am by no means a demanding user ( and I live in a well lit city) Regarding the magnetic tail caps though, I keep...

What are your favourite pocket knives?

After a brief dalliance with Spydercos I have gone back to SAKs for my daily carry. I rotate between Huntsman, Camper, Alox Pioneer and Alox Farmer. Occasionally I will carry a Spyderco Squeak or a Svord mini Peasant. I have other UK legal carry knives, but they hardly get any pocket time...

Nice! Your octagonal handles are very distinctive.

    Spalted Spoon

A very handsome spoon! I love a bit of spalting, although I agree it doesn't make for the best usable spoons.

    Nuther Beech Spoon

    That's a fine looking spoon.[emoji106][emoji106]

    Fun & Games

Superb! I know the opposing sides are carved in different styles, but do you have any plans to dye half of them?

    Victorinox Forester awl problems

Update - After spending quite a lot of time with extra oil and wiggling the awl backwards and forwards I had no joy in easing the problem, and the awl remains unopenable with my nails. I contacted Victorinox about this, and they referred me to Burton McCall, the UK distributor and service...

    Victorinox Forester awl problems

I don't think it's peened too tightly - once it is out it moves freely enough. It's just the initial resistance of the backspring means I can't get it out of the slot without bending back my thumbnail.
