    What's this please?

Ah, a beefly, thanks folks.:) The white blob gives the impression of being an egg protection device but I didn't want to destroy it to find out.

    What's this please?

On a birch tree, about the size of half a pingpong ball, soft like a marshmallow. And what's this wee beastie with the looong nose?

2010 election & changes to knife law

Just this morning there was a Tory guy on Today (R4) who stated unequivocally that they will have a zero tolerance to carrying a knife in public. No mention of s139, or type, or need, just "there is no reason for anyone to carry a knife on our streets"

2010 election & changes to knife law

Our biggest problem as I see it, is that more of the population live in cities now than in the country. Also, most of our legislators live in cities where having a robust knife about your person is seldom necessary.:(

    Button It!

Nice idea and I like the waistcoat, is it home made? I'd have thought that apple wood would be really tough as they use it as "teeth" in the cogs of wind mills.

    Wicker Fish Trap

Heads up, Monty Halls Great Hebridean Escape

Aye but he's the sort of character you'd happily share your camp fire with.:)

    UK based illness and diseases

On the Anthrax front, apart from I.V. drug abusers, the most recent cases have involved imported animal hides used for making drums.

    UK based illness and diseases

Necrotising fasciitis, caused by streptococcal infection of a wound. Rare but can be rapidly fatal if not treated very quickly; can also lead to amputation of the bits that are infected in order to prevent death. This is picked up in the same way as tetanus but AFAIK, there is no...

    No condensation trails!

No, these were compter controlled, vertical airfoil section wings. Along these lines They could have been scaled up and at least assisted propulsion on bigger vessels.

    Summer hats for UK use

A quick question for Barmah hat wearers: do you notice the brim "bouncing about" when you're walking? My Tilleys don't move at all but the brim on my new Burmah flips up and down as I walk. It makes SWMBO feel seasick when she's walking beside me.

    No condensation trails!

I know Adam, we're just comparing bad with bad. It's a pity that Walker Wind Sails went belly up; that's the sort of thinking we could do with now.

    No condensation trails!

To me, the pollution that harms people directly is a damn site worse than the stuff in the upper atmosphere. SO2 and micro particles play merry hell with the respiratory systems of air breathing mammals; this is much more immediately damaging than global warming.

    No condensation trails!

Rough oil combustion shoves much out more SO2 and micro particles than aviation fuel, so it's more qualitatively polluting.

    No condensation trails!

The Evil Ones aitn't stoopid: they will have stopped whatever it is they're doing so that we don't notice.:D

    Ray Mears

No TV so haven't seen it. RM's biggest problem is that he has become "Mr Bushcraft", which of course has done him no harm at all. BUT, he is a skilled communicator and broadcaster who has made a damn fine living out of exploiting his favourite hobby; there is no reason at all why he should...
