Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

That's pretty much our setup too. Manual transfer switch Electricity changeover switch by British Red, on Flickr In our case these days we would use a power station to run the house. These provide 4kW & are solar charged. If necessary they can be recharged by the propane generator in Winter...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

There are many mindsets & big overlaps. For us it's self sufficiency (is that survivalism?). The ability to get by without big input from the outside world. We produce our food, fuel, soap etc. We try to learn skills so that we can do many things for ourselves - be that seed saving, construction...

    What is the Monkey Sphere?

Is it not? The world is full of people whose lives are cut short for lack of basic things such as food, clean water, sanitation, immunisation. These things are cheap to provide & yet we treat the people who are more visible to us far better than those who are further away and less like us. I...

    Is Solar Tracking Worthwhile?

For those of us who enjoy brights, solar panels and all things geeky! I have recently the opportunity to test out possibly the ultimate portable solar unit with a folding panel, multiple charging options (from power station to 12V battery) and the ability to track the sun :D Fascinating and...

The 'I've found a bargain' thread

I use them in coop openers (we have many coops) & similar things. They are fine & at £1.20 each & capable of hundreds if charges they knock spots off alkalines & eneloops. The only rechargeable stuff that's on my "hell no" list is Olight
