    EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic

Ecoflow are reputable & towards the upper tier of manufacturers. £450 isn't bad for the spec but do bear in mind that when you are using mains power, there will be a notable drain just to power the inverter. You wouldn't be able to run your inverter for 48hours but could charge your devices &...

Cold plugs in chimneys and Clearblue log/multifuel burners

I use a Dewalt hot air gun (advice of a HETAS inspector mate). We generally have no issues but the stove hasn't been cold since October

Best way to restore hardened leather?

The best way is neatsfoot oil. It's the softening component of most leather treatment like saddle soap & leather cream. It's amazing stuff so use sparingly. https://amzn.to/4i5pubX

New Expandable Power Station - Aferiy P280

High voltage line work? I think that's the reason behind our outage

New Expandable Power Station - Aferiy P280

Worked fine when I tested it! Not sure of the internal spec but I suspect twin charge controllers. Both XT90 sockets allow up to 55V & maximum 600W (each) & don't have to match. A 12V input & 38V input worked well. Now I can't do that on the P210 or P310 because they have a single input socket...

New Expandable Power Station - Aferiy P280

Following on from our recent discussions on running tools from portable power stations, I thought this review might interest those who like the idea. It's a new offering from Aferiy (a brand I really like as a good blend of price & performance) Things I really like about it are 1) Expandable...

Renogy are decent. I use a Renogy 3000W. As others say, it's a huge current draw at 12V

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

The only regular bus here is the school bus. Public transport into the nearest town means walking miles to a main road

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Indeed. We in rural Lincolnshire appear to pay taxes to pay for the Metropolitan police (which costs double oer capita compared to ours) & public transport for cities

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Indeed, Growth in GDP often equates to individuals being worse off. It's a stupid economic measure

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

My reply was I think to say that society as a whole is doing that. We have come to a place where people think spending their lives being miserable to buy "stuff" is the purpose of existence. Where (all) governments pile on national debt because we now all expect "free" services (even though we...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I wonder how many on this forum are living unpleasant lives through fear? Doing jobs they dislike, living in built up areas that are polluted & unsafe, dreaming of a life in the country doing something meaningful. But of course fear of failure, not paying the mortgage, kids schools etc. keep...

    Chainsaw advice

If you are going to buy Parkside (a Lidl brand) wait till they are in store and buy there. They won't argue over warranty. A 1600W saw will need at least a 2000W inverter but the initial surge would be better served with 3000W A 100W Lithium battery holds 1200Wh. That's 45 mins hard operation...

    Suggest a battery Bank Please.

Right. Your phone has a 5,000mAh battery and can accept 30W charging. If you are using it near constantly over a long weekend let's say one and a half charges per day so 7,500mAh per day. For 4 days you would want a 30,000 mAh power bank. This is the upper end of power bank sizes. If we say one...

    Suggest a battery Bank Please.

I've tested lots. There is a vast range of prices & capabilities. Older, cheaper, models will recharge phones but very slowly. Newer models using USB C ports and "PD" charging protocol should list their maximum power output (often 45Watt, 65Watt or 100Watt). Stupidly, power banks list their...
