    Guess what I’m watching

Surely the man with the rifle is Richard Hannay! I think I paid 1/6 to see this! 39 Steps

Tai Chi or other types of gentle exercise

That’s an interesting question @Broch I have never subscribed to the maxim “No pain, no gain.” nor “Whatever does not kill me makes me strong.” Both seem a bit puritanical/masochistic for my philosophies. I well know that others will disagree. I can however imagine an athlete (at any level)...

Tai Chi or other types of gentle exercise

I got the impression that you had to imagine the effort rather than just observe.

Tai Chi or other types of gentle exercise

There is research (I’ll try and find a reference - almost certainly some in New Scientist) that suggests that imagining strenuous exercise for a period of time and in a regular can show some of the benefits of doing the actual exercise. These benefits, if I remember aright, included observable...

    Spring anyone ?

Blackthorn. Yep, put me down on the list. If I squint hard the Ash buds are probably swelling! :)

Thanks Dave. OK Now I’m on the hook :lmao: Let’s see if this works. Little multitool. Unused and still in its packaging. Slightly dusty. I’d rather not take it out for photographs but will if anyone is practically interested. Takes standard 1/4” screwdriver bits. AND It has the usual...

    Pocket Dump

Mine is a 62mm closed loop snap shackle. They have quite a range You may find versions with a swivel and a shackle pin more useful. Just search quick release snap shackle and you’ll see all sorts. For no practical reason I have an affection for the pelican shackle - but then I enjoy...

Astronomical vs Meteorological - The Season Showdown

When Britain changed from Fahrenheit to what was then called Centigrade (now Celsius) there was a competition for a saying or poem that would help the transition. The one that won was: 5, 10 and 21 Winter, Spring and Summer sun. (It gave you a ballpark figure without harking back to the old...

    Pocket Dump

The chain runs through the steel eye of the shackle. The shackle is clipped into the fabric belt loop of my trousers. If the loop were to be snapped everything is still attached to the wallet in one zipped pocket and the car key in another. Neither the car key nor the wallet will pass...

Astronomical vs Meteorological - The Season Showdown

So it’s true: Air travel IS buggering up the seasons! :lmao:

    Pocket Dump

Absolutely understand except that, lacking your discipline, I could (would) easily forget to check - so I don’t This is not a pocket dump - it only accounts for two of the nine pockets in my trousers. The light curb chain runs through the eye of a snap shackle that carries the house keys...

Astronomical vs Meteorological - The Season Showdown

It is quite literally treeological :lmao: My Ash trees carrying leaf burden = Summer. My Ash trees bare of leaves = Winter Spring transition bud swell to bud burst. Autumn transition leaf fall.

Astronomical vs Meteorological - The Season Showdown

Neither. I think of my patch of UK as having two seasons separated by two short transitions. These transitions change from year to year and seem to be shifting in the longer term. I tend to be guided by S Spring snowdrops and a certain smell that I associate with Autumn - Winter’s advice note.

    4000?

No worries :) I’m not about to shoot back. I’m happy to be who I am. You just happen to have touched upon something that I find deeply fascinating. I would dearly love to say that I know nothing. It is one of the goals of science as well as of some philosophical schools. Truly to know...

    *The* Gift-It-On Thread

I enjoy this thread and have some good stuff from it. These is nothing wrong with what’s on offer but I know how difficult it can be when what you’ve got available isn’t what people currently want. (I may well be about to find out again!!!!) So: I’ll take the LMF cruet if it’s still available...

    Swedish Fire Log

Sootier than oak but much more available. I had no problem. You might need a decent pan scrub when you get home. I always use a stainless steel one but then nearly all my kit is stainless steel.
