I am with tombear on this one. I own a number 8, however I modified it doing a number of things to make it how I preffered it. A short while after I finished the modifications my brother turned up with the Number 8 Garden knife. It's almost identical to my carbon steel knife in all respects...
Yes, but you'll get that in all walks of life, be IT with people using iPad's against android versions or be it someone using a Frosts River or Duluth pack over a pack by highlander. That's in people's nature to do the "Look at Me" thing.
In the end it's not what you've got it's what you do...
Any item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you aren't willing to pay that much for a knife then so be it.
When buying knives people will look at a number of things and these are factors effecting their idea of worth. Design, is it aesthetically pleasing, does it or will it...
Dreadhead is right you should be able to get bits from EvilBay.
However you could also look up chiropody, podiatry and orthotic supplies. Algeos should be under that lot and they'll have soling amongst other things.
You can light fires on Dartmoor as long as they are enclosed (having a firebowl or folding fire box). Ground based fires are illegal unless agreed with the landowner, like the guy that runs the campsite at Cockingford just up the road from Widecombe in the Moor and he allows them next to the...
Yeah, I am another that uses a "Hoodoo Hone". Once in a blue moon I will run the edge at a shallow angle over a wetstone, but afterwards I'll run the No'8 over the hone.
Insurance the curse of the planet.
Yes you're probably more than correct as under the law the production company will have "duty of care" to the contestants. The likelihood that they are alone is not just unlikely, it just ain't gonna happen. Duty of care means that everything that they require...
A lot of us have bought things from LePrevo, I have a load of tools from them. I've also bought bits from Bowstock.co.uk. The quality of the tools are good enough from both LePrevo and from Bowstock.
I have the copper Maratac, it's a good little torch, slightly smaller than the cheapy from Amazon, having said that it's not as bright as the cheapy from Amazon or the little AAA that I own.
I bought one of these from Amazon for £1.98 delivered a little while ago, for what they are they are reasonably powerful and well built especially at the price. I have had mine for the better part of six months now, it gets a lot of use. The only bad thing with mine is that it just suddenly...
Like John it's been a long process and there's been a lot of changes, the more I learnt, the more I learnt I had to learn. I teach, but I am still learning and probabaly always will be. I started with a smallish pack as a lad, the pack got larger, then it got smaller again. Now it's a case that...
There is no book that can claim to be being the bushcraft bible because bushcraft is many things to many different people.
Bushcraft, the ultimate survival guide by Richard H Graves.
Northern Bushcraft by Mors L Kochanski
Wildwood Wisdom by Ellsworth Jaeger
There are far too many books to list...
There's another called "Animals, Tracks, Trails and Signs", this one is a Hamlyn Guide R.W. Brown, M.J. Lawrence and J. Pope.
Bob Carrs book on tracking is very good. So I'll second that.
Thanks, just back for a day to get my kit sorted for tomorrow when I am away again.
I pick up most things on the phone when I have a reception so I'll keep an eye out. :)
Probably just as well, i'm gonna be working through from 11th through till the 22nd. There's is also potential for more work directly afterwards and then there's work pre-booked for the beginning of April and the end of April. May, June, July and August are pretty much out of the question for me.
