    Fjallraven trousers/pants sizing changes

The non-stretchy nature of G-1000 means I never wear the Vidda Pros anymore. I would definitely recommend the Ventilated variants, as the only difference is stretchy material in the crotch, and side vent zips. They are much more comfortable. That said, I exclusively wear the Kebs now. These are...

    Boring Freelander 2 stuff

Parked next to a fellow instructor’s 110. My FL2 is in the garage today for a new O/S/F lower suspension arm and ball joint. That’s my Christmas present!

    Lost interest!

One of the things that has made it harder, in my humble view, is the loss of quiet woodland areas, and the ability to carry knives and make fire - two core ‘bushcraft’ things. Even foraging is difficult. That leaves tree and plant ID, bird-watching, and all of the other things that we can do...

    Open University.

Now, you do remember that I am a Professor of Law, right?

    Boring Freelander 2 stuff

It’s definitely a universal EPB problem, it seems. I managed to unseize mine this morning before RAC turned up, by waggling the connector on the rear right actuator. Ordered new actuators and wiring looms this afternoon for both sides, so (probably stupidly) I am going to attempt to do this...

    Boring Freelander 2 stuff

Sadly not! Or at least, the FL2 console isn’t so easy to snap off and on. Alright alright, don’t rub it in…

    Boring Freelander 2 stuff

Awaiting the RAC as my electronic parking brake is seized and stuck on. I suspect a faulty actuator. Arses.

GMail will use your data to train AI (ie. read all your private emails)

I haven't used Gmail for years, with the privacy concerns attached to their ads (i.e. already reading our emails). I highly recommend Fastmail for fast, secure personal email.

    Chris's trying out leatherwork thread

Speaking of leather notebooks… one item I made some years ago was a leather notebook. It’s designed to hold 3 x Moleskine cahier journals, and as I fill them up I can just replace them. I still use this every day (for work), and every so often someone comments on it or asks where I got it from.

Power steering reservoir and fluid changed. I can really feel the difference! One of those jobs that’s not too tricky and definitely work doing.

That looks great! I think I might have to try and make one now (my wallet is on its last legs).

    Show us your watches

I’ve always liked watches. Since I was about 11 years old, I have longed for a Rolex Explorer, like the one Edmund Hillary wore climbing Everest. For many years it was only available in 36mm, and I have fairly enormous wrists and hands - it just looked too dainty on me. Then, fate. A couple of...

    Chris's trying out leatherwork thread

Well, here’s a strong vote for wet-forming. I always do it with my sheaths - as an instructor, I often have my knife in and out of my hand, and I need to be able to relocate my knife back into its sheath quickly and without looking. If you get the wet forming right, it almost acts as a suction -...

Hooped bivvies - what's the point?

Barney! Don’t tell me that I can find bivvies on Vinted! What are you trying to do to me? I am also a big fan of bivvy and tarp - British Army and DD Superlight, just like Chris. I just don’t like the hooped ones. For me, kind of the whole point of bivvy and tarp is that you are closer to...

Hooped bivvies - what's the point?

I'm of the opinion that there isn't really a good use-case for a hooped bivi, now that one/two-man tents have reached the point where they are nearly as light and small when packed (Lanshan, etc), and personally I find them uncomfortable. I'm not remotely claustrophobic normally, but I don't...

    Boring Freelander 2 stuff

Looks great! I went with the rails and bars on mine because I already had a roofbox to go on it, but otherwise a rack would have been good. The big question is what you’re going to put on your rack…

    Boring Freelander 2 stuff

I have Yokohama Geolander AT15s on mine, at a slightly oversized size. They’re great, not too noisy on road and so much grip off road. Ground clearance - definitely. Some people use a lift kit on the FL2s, but that can cause all kinds of trouble. I’ve just gone for bigger tyres and a sump...
