Got no13 wrong... But like many I contest the answer... Still 95 percent is still a good pass

    Return of the Genome

Woolly mammoth with rainbow pride fur.. How woke. As a thought, we as a species tend to wipe out creatures we deem no use to us, anyone wanna guess what would happen to cows and sheep if the pushed vegan future came about? The, distrusting, conspiracist in me think all those fields wasted on...

    Return of the Genome

I say yes for two really unthought out reasons, one, I believe when I die I will see woolly mammoth, it's a thought that makes me happy and weakens deaths grip... But if I could see them while alive all the better. Two, I want our meddling idiotic species to reintroduce something that kicks...

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

Just to play devil's advocate, likewise just because we're told it's progress and "everyone does it" doesn't mean it's pinnacle of doing either... Don't try to reinvent the wheel isn't a popular saying for no reason! How many wheels have been reinvented and sold to people as the next best...

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

Ahhh but that's a butcher knife not a whittler... I thought the tooth pick was a dagger type blade hence the name... It had a point you could pick your teeth with.

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

I loving this thread... As an aside, entrenching tools have been the infantry man's axe for quite a few years and in the trenches was used as a very effective weapon hense the spatznes shovel. The pocket knife of the frontiers man and soldier (French and Indian War and American Revolutionary...

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

That said the Russians, Chinese and Italians all had or have folding bayonets... So maybe....

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

Chris, I take it you never had the joy of a SA80 bayonet then, lol, the early issued ones were a caste iron type thing and snapped left right and centre, even the wire cutting attachment was about as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

Good question, worth expanding on too. K bars, Israeli defence force knife, SRK, Fairburn Skyes knife etc tend to be, as far as I'm aware, specialist issue. K bars for Marine Corp, SRK seal teams, Fairburn Skyes command etc... Even the modest Mod Survival knife is specialist issue... More...

Human evolution can't keep up with the rate of change

That's deep.. Well said that man

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

Interesting, you chose a Sweden knife over a Finnish maker? The puukko and leuko combo is a thread for another day me thinks

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

M Lol, or am I as guilty of being suckered into wasting money like every one else? No as I said above I not talking about knives as such. I love my knives as much as the next man, and for the record, I don't carry an axe mostly either, I have a fixed bladed, hand made leuko and a opinel no9...

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

Well I imagine that got your attention didn't it? But it's a serious question. Let me explain, when we look at the history of mankind a fixed blade knife wasn't the main tool option. Otzi the iceman, for example, is probably the earliest none written example of a outdoorsmans tool choices...

Human evolution can't keep up with the rate of change

Great thread. Totally agree with the centiment too, although I'm much colder in my view as I just don't care. We have more than enough trouble here to deal with.

    Winter blues.

Woody girl totally with you on this one, doesn't help the weather we are having down here either. Look on the bright side, I work nights so this time of year I get up in the dark, come home in the dark and don't see daylight for days at a time

    Is there less honour recently?

It's a funny old world these days, I certainly agree with you in many ways ebay isn't called evil bay for nothing it's a conmans paradise, but I also think legitimate companies and sellers also have to same problem. I wonder how many sellers (your phone story being proof of point) have the same...

    Trouser Twists

Used them all the time on the army mate, both twisters and elastic bands. They do help stopping the bottoms of your trousers getting soiled to a degree but not enough to make a big difference you'd be better with gaiters or just rolling up your trousers if somewhere particularly muddy...

    Towards slightly greener fleece

Have you looked at the Dutch army fleece? It's a wool mix, maybe 80/20, it's really warm and has thumb loops to keep the wrists protected
