Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

That looks like the kind of picture the police usually post after a knife amnesty. The only thing missing is the obligatory bat'leth :)

Bushcraft and homesteading skills in WW3

I thought to myself recently on a trip to London what I could do in the event of a train attack, and the answer is not much, best thing in fact the only thing would be to try and put some object between you and the attacker such as luggage or even an overcoat you had taken off. As for Bondi...

Greetings all - Machetes, axes, clearing foot paths?

Aagh I have just caught myself responding to a ghost thread, anyway to delete this post?

Better than an ICE and it's standard 12v battery though, either way it will keep your phone charged at least.

    Poncho practical?

I went out for a walk today and I took my poncho for when it started to rain, to be honest I should have taken my drovers coat instead, that way my knees would have stayed dry.

    Lost interest!

I have never done "bushcraft" to begin with, I have camped, I have hiked, I have practised traditional woodland skills, I have made stuff out of leather and so on, but whatever you call it, it is just things I have either found practical or enjoy to do.

Bushcraft and homesteading skills in WW3

I wouldn't feel very safe living in my block of flats, rather obvious target for drones. I have a hybrid car, and that is virtually a mobile power station in the event of power cuts.

    Emergency Bleed Kit

Cut resistant gloves and sleeves certainly will not prevent a stabbing wound, however you can grasp a blade with cut resistant gloves at least and cut resistant sleeves can be worn discretely and would at least protect your arteries from bleeding out. I am going well into paranoid territory...

Who was the genius who conned us into believing we need a fixed blade knife for bushcraft?

Oh honestly! I have had a fixed blade knife since my teens, and of course folding knives before that. I had a fixed blade knife long before I ever heard of any of these bushcraft personalities and before I had heard batoning was a thing. Does not mean I did not have an axe or two too.

    Emergency Bleed Kit

I think probably the best thing I could do in such a situation is not interfere with anyone who knows what they are doing and be willing to take instructions.

    WHAT DID YOU MAKE TODAY?

I am making a lamp standard using a piece of less than perfect wood, but the interest in it is carving out the rot and leaving an interesting shape behind.

Getting a rope over a tree branch

Tie a stick to it and throw it over javelin fashion?

    Fad items of Bushcraft

Oh yeah forgot about the UCO's extra tick if you have the (rubbish) paraffin insert.

It’s not just a fad, Mum!

What is this thing called a Swanndri shirt, I am into Pendletons myself :)

Good Afternoon from a new member

    Fad items of Bushcraft

I dunno but I have gone the whole length with the Polish tent thing but I would not call that a fad and feel insulted here. The Ikea hobo stove though and Czech bedroll maybe. Volcano stove? Who me?
