Browser based OS mapping of the whole UK

You can have your very own copy of the Openstreetmap database (but it's 46 gigabytes and rising) if you like. Nothing like the OS map but very useful all the same. http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=6/53.995/-2.000

    Thoughts

If it were mine I'd just sharpen it and use it. I very much doubt it's stainless but stranger things have happened. There's nothing like that hanging on my walls, but then I'm not one for a lot of decorations.

    Baffling message from Google

That's nothing like the full headers of an email. Look for how to get the full headers displayed and post them.

    Baffling message from Google

If you have to ask this question it's probably too late already. Was the message that you got in an email? If so, it was very likely forged. It's trivial to forge email. To find out if it was forged, look at the email headers. Use a search engine to find out how to do that - it's different...

    2 man tent

Agreed that for one man, if you can carry the bulk and weight of a two-man tent it's far better than squeezing into a one-man tent. If you want weather tight, it's not going to be very cheap. Cheap tents will usually shelter you from rain, but the groundsheets often fail badly. When I use...

    Tarps and sparks!!

Well, it will be fine if you don't burn larch. :) Canvas is a lot more resistant to sparks than man-made fibres.

Recommend me books for menfolks ? please.

Oh, I forgot - if I could only keep one of the thousands of books on my shelves, it would be "Emergency Navigation: Improvised and No-Instrument Methods for the Prudent Mariner" by David Burch. This was originally a two-volume set, but that's out of print and this single volume replaces it...

Recommend me books for menfolks ? please.

"The Making of the Atomic Bomb" by Richard Rhodes is one of my all-time favourites. I found "Patton: A Genius for War" by Carlo D'Este a very good read. "Black Hawk Down" by Mark Bowden is absolutely riveting but of course it's set in Ethiopia...

    Drying goretex lined boots

Agreed no heat source. You can make the air move with a little fan.

    Stropping - Compounds?

Autosol is fine, it's all I use. Some people use toothpaste. As you say it will work without a compound but it's more work and slower. If you really want to get technical there are lots of compounds you can try but unless you're going to be entering sharpening competitions I wouldn't have...

    wanted: jerven bag/fjellduken

I have an original Thermo Extreme, which has seen me (and on one occasion me and a companion) safely through many a very cold night. I'd certainly consider a swap. Again a long shot, but do you have something like a GSX750R to trade for it? :)

    Non-Scandi RWL34 (MCQBushcraft)

It doesn't float my boat. I certainly wouldn't want to use it on game, although I suppose it could do for general food and firewood prep. I don't like the corners on the handle, nor those nasty fasteners, nor the extension of the handle down to the ricasso, nor the blade surface finish. I like...

    fresh out the oven!

Well let's see how they look when finished, eh? I kinda fancy that one. What scales/liners/pins/finish are you thinking?

    fresh out the oven!

Are the bottom two roughly 3" blades? If so, 4mm sounds quite thick for the geometry and I'll be very interested to see how they pan out. They all look good but I esecially like the one labelled 60HRC. :)

    Elmax or RWL 34

You asked for pros and cons but it looks like what you've got so far is comparisons between the two, and I wondered if you were thinking of other steels as well? Assuming they're properly made (in particular, properly heat treated, but other parts of the manufacturing process are important...

    Hand drill hell

If you're fit but you're running out of steam, then there's clearly something not right somewhere. Agreed on the hearth - try a different wood, e.g. lime, sycamore or willow. I take it you're making sure that the materials are (very) dry? Are you using the technique of putting in steady spins...
