I’ve got a Qui-Ya, the compression system confused the hell out of me at first but once you know what you’re doing it becomes very useful. It’s one of the most comfortable packs I’ve carried, and it’s great for carrying things externally - tripods, axes etc.

Well, they are legal so I’m not really sure what you mean there. What were you doing when you broke the tip? I’ve had no problems with either of mine and they’ve seen years of daily carry and use in a marine environment.

I’ve had one for over 15 years, it’s still a go to bit of kit for me. Worth its weight in gold, and it’s not the lightest or most compact thing to pack.
They work best when worn next to the skin, that’s how it’s designed to be worn. I’ve worn it over shirts and other base layers with no problem...
Look at the Carinthia TRG line, it’s a bloody good bit of kit. I hate wearing waterproofs but the TRG is a bloody brilliant bit of kit. Extremely well thought out, I think it was developed in conjunction with the bootnecks.
I think Jay Jays in Brecon make custom stuff. The leafcutter is a great design but I think it needs updating with higher quality clips and fastenings. Hill People Gear make some great kit.
