    Mesh Base Layers

Thinking about it, by definition this means they're not warmer than their non-mesh counterparts, because they require the addition of a solid layer to be warmer! Which they will do, in certain circumstances, but then to me it defeats the point of the mesh.

    Mesh Base Layers

I wouldn't state that they're categorically warmer; they're different. They breathe more as there's more air flow permitted so you get less sweaty, and there's less material to get soggy so then you can trap warm air rather than being in contact with highly conductive wet material (although...

    Mesh Base Layers

I have started using them. Have a polypro Brynje long sleeve and merino Aclima longjohns. Having a tight fitting layer above, unless easily opened/unzipped, defeats the purpose, as from my perspective their benefit is in the ability to immediately dump heat. That's not possible if they're under...

What fungi did you spot today?

I've already put one in for that one!

What fungi did you spot today?

Yes indeed, it looked rather fake in person! A very large bush, more like a hedgerow of leylandii a good 10 metres long, with these popping up out of it.

    Email notifications

Isn't the only one notification thing the way it should be? Idea being that you're notified that there has been a response, and until you actually check the site, it doesn't keep telling you about the other responses because you have yet to check the initial response which you were already...

What fungi did you spot today?

Never seen this before - seemingly growing out of a leylandii hedge. Not sure what they were attached to, whether the branches/twigs or something else inside.

    Lars Falt Kydex sheath ?

It could also be that a leather option may now simply cost too much for many people to consider? You'd expect a certain level of quality, and it might just be too cost prohibitive if e.g. a supplier/maker has changed or the like. So the kydex offers another price point option.

    Lars Falt Kydex sheath ?

It is my preference for practical use - no water issues, light, secure. Only issue being noise, and of course it lacks the character and bushcrafty feel of a leather sheath, but when choosing, I always go kydex if it's offered.

Why is Royal Mail so rubbish

I suspect Black Friday (and seemingly every day in November being called the same) has something to do with it at the moment. I do like InPost but their lockers are unreliable and what's more, if you can't collect because the locker computer has crashed, it doesn't extend your 72hr collection...

    Return of the Genome

Humanity as a whole does not treat extant species with sufficient respect, so that needs to change before extinct species are brought back. I fear they would become just another zoo exhibit, or fancy menu item. I can't see a species being brought back for the animals' sake; it would only be for...

    Need a new Bivi Bag!

Now that is bivvying! I'd always wondered if anyone really used them like that, and you have answered that question with aplomb.

What fungi did you spot today?

These rather smelly rotting ones - found quite a few standing trees and stumps with these surrounding them: And these rather pretty ones:

Hooped bivvies - what's the point?

For me you've nailed it here why they're useful - they give you the freedom to do as you did when weather permits, but if things are grim then you can get sealed up inside if you don't have the facility of a covering tarp e.g. due to lack of suitable attachment points or because it's too...
